Snow Proteciton

Jason and I went to one of the Christmas parties in his region this weekend.
We headed for Grand Junction Saturday morning, but the great thing about going to Grand Junction from Denver is you have to drive right by all the ski resorts.

We decided we'd leave early, stop and ski, and then head on to the party.
The only problem is that we couldn't let the kids know we were doing the skiing part.

I can only imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth that bit of information would have caused.

So under cover of darkness, we loaded all the ski equipment Friday night.
Then Saturday morning pretended we were leaving to just drive over to the Christmas party.

And hour and a half later none were the wiser that we were actually in Vail.

Jason and I had never skied Vail, so we were excited even though only about 13 runs were open.
Vail is gorgeous, and we had such a good time.

Our only picture of the day.

With so few runs open, there were Ski Patrol everywhere (which as a non fast skier and a mama to little people, I totally appreciate).
But I've never seen a Sheriff on any mountain!
That's some serious snow protection!
