Another 1st Day of School

In one of the least shocking things to happen, I didn't get a back to school picture from JR this week.

Of course I did get a 1st day of rush picture.

This year he's doing what he calls J-board.   Jason and I just keep calling him Stan. (Which any 80's kid will know is a Revenge of the Nerds reference.)

He also worked sorority bid day, so he had a front row seat on the row to watch all the girls run home.

1st Meet

Reed ran his 1st meet (varsity) of the season on Saturday.  There were 119 kids competing, with a starting line that looked like this.

It was a 4K (so almost 2 1/2 miles).

Jason, Granny Sherry, and I need to train better for these races because we are barely making it to see him run by us from point to point.

The first time we saw him there were so many kids around it was hard to count what place he was in, but he was somewhere in the mid 30's.

The next time we saw him he'd worked his way up to 17th place

And then the last time I saw him he was in 15th.

I couldn't get to the finish line in time to see where he finished, but I could tell with how far back the other kids were that he was going to finish in the top 20.  I assumed he would be getting a medal, so when I saw him at a distance wearing a medal I wasn't surprised, until he told me that he got the last one, only the top 15 medaled!

He finished in 14:10. I think he was wanting in the 13's, but we'll take it.

Oxford

I have a friend whose daughter was going through rush at Ole Miss last week so another friend and I jumped a plane to go be on the front lines.  (And, of course, to see JR who had gone straight to Oxford from Alabama).

We didn't take a ton of pictures, but look how cute the house we stayed in is.  Inside was all Ole Miss decor.

JR took us to all his favorite places.

Because all the girls were busy with rush, only a few of the friend girls could squeeze us in for a visit.

We had so much fun, and I'm so glad I got to see JR for a few days before he starts school.

Time Trial

Reed had his beginning of the cross country season 2-mile time trial on Saturday.  He came in 2nd on the team with a 10:37.  Here they are coming around one of the 8 times, and yes, they are lapping the other kids you see.

It's fun to go back and see how far he's come.  His freshman year he ran a 13:13 (which we were super proud of, and thought was super fast) last year he ran 12:00, and then this year the 10:37.

Back to School

Kyle and Reed started back to school on Thursday.  Kyle said he had no friends in any of his classes, and they were all boring and stupid.  Reed said the first day was "fine".

Here's Reed way too early in the morning getting packed up to leave for cross country

And here he is when he got home from school.

And here's Kyle leaving for school at a more normal time of 7:15

And even though Chloe is in both back to school pictures, she says she's going to homeschool this year.

Tomorrow

School starts tomorrow and tomorrow is JR's last day of work.

And here he is, working hard.

Back Home

Jason, Kyle, Chloe and I left Breckenridge on Friday at 6:10 and pulled in our driveway at 11:10. I'm not sure you can do it much faster.

Chloe has been trying to adjust back to the heat (and lack of chipmunks to torment).

And as you can see, she is not pleased to be back.

Colorado 24 #4

We're wrapping up our time in Colorado.

Kyle had his last day of work yesterday.

Chloe has been busy keeping the chipmunks away from my provided snacks.

And we've had to wear a bunch of clothes because it's been chilly.

Gave Up

Well, I guess I just gave up on July because here it is August!  It's been pretty much lazy days of summer in Houston (though not like a typical Houston summer, it's rained not stop and hasn't even been hot...well, what we call "hot").

While we were in Houston Jason and I went to a wedding, we are now officially at the age where our friends' kids are getting married.

We looked like this

We stopped in an ate before the wedding because we knew it was going to be a full mass and we didn't want to show up to the reception starving.  We went to the Taco Cabana that we ate at on the first night we met, which in September will be 25 years ago!

We had lots of fun at the reception, so much fun they had to make us leave.

Then Jason and I flew back to Colorado today.
He got upgraded to 1st class and he was so sweet, he gave me his seat.

I ate gummy bears and watched Housewives.

We made it back to Breck where Chloe was super excited to see us, and I think Kyle might have even been happy to see us too.
