Nothin' But a Good Time

We made it out of the parade and home in time to watch it pour down rain.  I really wanted to see Bret Michaels perform, and as the rain slacked off a bit, everyone humored me and we went back.

Bret was supposed to take the stage at 5:30. Here's our view while we waited on him.

He came on at 6:15 and did 6 songs, which was really fine because we were cold and wet and I couldn't name any other song I would have wanted to hear.

He even gave the "people on the balcony" a shout out, so obviously Bret thinks I'm awesome.

Jeep Parade

Considering how cold it was, that it was about to pour down rain at any moment, and the wind was blowing like a bat out of hell it's amazing that my Jeep even got decorated, much less that we made it through almost the entire parade before the flood gates opened.

Not a lot of pictures (because we were freezing) but here's what it looked like!

We Did The Hokey Pokey

We went to Galveston for Mardi Gras this weekend, and the weather couldn't have been worse.

But we are so awesome, we somehow still managed to get in all the things!

The Umbrella Parade was Friday night...and it was 39 degrees.

I really put very little effort (for me) into the umbrellas.

Ok, so mine did have llamas.

And here we are wearing all the winter coats and gloves because it was freezing!

Jason didn't even complain about having to wear feathers because they were keeping him warm!

Cold or not, we still got to do the hokey pokey in front of The Tremont Hotel which is the most important part!

Track #2

Reed had his 2nd track meet of the season on Saturday.

He placed 3rd in the 2 mile with a time of 10:08 and he placed 5th in the 1 mile with a time of 4:48.  He was "medium happy" with his times.

He also got "cleated" by another runner for the 2nd week in a row.

And this showed up on his Instagram last night.  It's him from his running camp this summer.  I think it's supposed to encourage kids to go trail run in the mountains, though I'm not sure how that would encourage anyone!

Certified

As of last week, Kyle officially has a level one certification from the Texas State Florists' Association.

So let's look at some of his latest creations.

He sent this to the family group text and Jason asked him who he was going to give it to.

He told us he'd already eaten all the candy.

Then he made this one

And they wouldn't let the kids bring it home in the glass vase, so they turned them in to boutonnieres.

I may have to start letting him be in charge of the nosegays!

Not to be Ignored

I guess I haven't mentioned JR in a while, and never one to shy away from attention, he went and got himself in the newspaper.

And yes, he's taking a class about Bob Dylan.
He has such a "hard" schedule.

Big Busy Weekend Part 4

Like I mentioned, Kyle wasn't able to dive at regionals because it was the same night as his lamb show, just too many things going on at once!

So here are some cool pictures from the district dive meet.

Big, Busy Weekend Part 3

Saturday was the big sale day and Kyle had lots of adoring fans in the audience.

Meagan sold for $2,000.  So not as much as a pig, but lambs don't cost as much to raise as a pig.

And I also saw a district video about the show and sale with Kyle holding a chicken.
(No, he didn't show chickens, but he helped out a kid who was showing them.)
I couldn't get the video to load, but here's the picture.

We are very proud of Kyle.  All the time, effort, and early mornings he puts in to his animals is really quite something.  There's no weekends off or even days off when it comes to this.

I'm pretty sure he'll be going back to pigs next year.  Even though pigs are a lot more work, it was tough to say goodbye to sweet Meagan, and he doesn't want to have to do that again.

Big, Busy Weekend Part 2

Friday we headed out to watch Reed in his first track meet of the season.  He told us that they were going to try and break the school record in the 4x1600.  They only have the 4x1600 at 2 meets, and next week one of the boys is going to be out of town, so they knew that had to do it this meet.  What's so hard about this race is that all 4 of them had to have a great day...which is why the school record has been around since 1980.

Reed was lead off, and ran his mile in 4:35:69 a PR for him.

That's Reed out in front.

Now Reed doesn't get too excited about much, but he was definitely excited about this.  He probably ran another mile or two running back and forth to cheer on his teammates.

We knew they had broken the record at the end of the race, and here's Reed's reaction.

Everyone was very happy for them!

And the coach got their names on the record board 1st thing this morning!

They pulled the old record off, signed it, and cut it up in pieces for each of them to keep.

Big, Busy Weekend 1

It was a big, busy weekend with what felt like all the things happening.  It was so big, that Kyle didn't even get to dive at Regionals (which he qualified for) because it was the same night as his lamb show.

Megan and Kyle did well.  We would have liked for her to place higher, but she came in right in the middle. Here she is coming out.

Kyle qualified for the showmanship round (only 6 get to go on) and he was the only boy that qualified.  He didn't win showmanship, but it was exciting that he was picked.

So it was one of those nights that was just an okay night.  Things could have gone better, but we're glad they didn't go worse.

It's Showtime

 Tonight is Megan's show night.

She weighed in at 119 pounds and is in the lightweight class.

She got a haircut for the show, which I'm not sure she's happy with. Bless her little heart.

Cotillion 2

We had to leave for Reed's pictures before Kyle had to leave and I was worried he would forget his nosegay.  I went to put it in his car (so he wouldn't forget it) and thank goodness he was meeting his date because a Jeep that goes to the ag barn every day is not fit for a girl in formal wear!

Kyle's group had dinner and pictures at one of the girl's houses and it was so pretty!

They had a hibachi chef and sushi!

Here's Kyle's group

And the lighting was so pretty for his pictures with his date (who he's known since 1st grade).

And don't her flowers look great with her dress! Thankyouverymuch.

Kyle said he had a "blast" (which is the least surprising thing I've ever heard.)

Cotillion 1

This weekend was junior cotillion (the girls ask the boys) and since my boys have 0 pictures together, I guess I'll just split up their posts.

I made these 3 take pictures before they left for the evening.

And Chloe had to be in the picture too!

Then they went to the country club for pictures and dinner

You can't even find them in the group pictures since there were 40 kids in the group, so here's a picture of the four I care about.

I made both those nosegays.  They look so good with their dresses (if I do say so myself).

And their dinner tables were very pretty.

One of the moms sent me this picture, and look at that, it looks like Reed is having fun.
