May Things

Here's all the extra things that didn't make the blog in May.

Jason and I took these to show off our "bands" (as our kids call it).

I still work out.

I traded in the Jeep.

The kids had dress up days the last week (this is dress like your elementary school self)

22

JR turned 22 today.  We celebrated with him when he was here earlier this month.

He wanted a polar pizza, but he wanted a mint chocolate chip one so that he could have it to all to himself (because mint chocolate chip is gross).  So yes, JR would rather have a gross birthday cake that we won't eat instead of just getting what he wants.

So I bought an oreo one for the rest of us!

Happy Birthday JR!

Memorial Day

We had a good weekend, and everybody stayed busy in the least surprising ways possible.

JR worked.

Kyle went to Galveston.

And Reed ran.

Awards Night

School is still going, which feels never-ending when the kids have to go back after Memorial Day.  We had awards night last week.  Reed got top junior and 3-year distinguished honor roll.

Yearbook

Kyle landed himself (with Megan) on the inside cover of the yearbook.

I even took a video, because he's literally the first thing.

And then he got himself a color picture too!

I Think He's OK.

It looks like JR is really sad he's not spending the summer in Houston.

That Doesn't Look Like a Flower

I'm not sure what's going on in Floral Design class these days.

But in all fairness, they just had a visitor pop over from small animal management class.

Mother's Day

We had everybody home for Mother's Day so that was the best part! The flowers were beautiful, and the food was delicious, so it was a great day with all the mamas!

Big Feelings 2

Well, Poor Chloe didn't even have time to regulate her feelings before JR was off again.  He left yesterday morning and had his first day back at work today.  It was good to see him, and we're happy he gets to have such a fun summer job every year.

Big Feelings

I read an article that said when dogs bring you their toys when you get home they are having "big feelings".  So we now tease Chloe that she's having big feelings every time she does it.

But she was having such big feelings when she saw JR she didn't even have time to go grab a toy.  JR came home on Thursday evening and is leaving Monday morning, so we don't get him long, but Chloe will take him for any amount of time she can get.

Derby Day

I've been wanting to go back to the Kentucky Derby ever since we went.  So this year I found a derby party at the race track that I thought might get Jason out of having to take me back to the real one.

Spoiler alert: it didn't.

We did have lots of fun, but it was definitely not the real derby.

Although we did have way better weather than the real derby.  It was windy (which was hard on my hat), but the perfect temperature!

Speaking of my hat, I went super lowkey.  I bought the blue part and then added white feathers and butterflies.

So we looked like this.

Reed told us to bet on Citizen Bull and I picked Journalism....and we all know how that turned out.

Before we almost won the big race.

And here we are standing on the race track, which would be a huge deal at Churchill Downs, but pretty easy to do at the SHRP.

We Missed It

It's end of the year "banquet" season.  I put banquet in quotation marks because that word makes these events sound way fancier than dinner in the school cafeteria.  Usually it's about honoring the seniors (which it should be) so Reed told us we didn't need to go to the track banquet.

And wouldn't you know it, since we weren't there, Reed won the high point award for the season. (Well, he tied with one of the mid-distance runners)

Even Reed was surprised he won being that he's only in 2 events and he missed one of the meets.

So this is the only picture I have of the big night.

This is What Excitement Looks Like

Jason got everyone in the family Easter Lillys this year.  They hadn't opened on Easter Sunday, so we were really looking forward to the "grand opening".  My mom and Granny Sherry both texted and sent pictures when theirs opened.  And Jason and I have spent way too much time discussing ours.

Here's what ours looked like when it opened.

It was very exciting (I guess this is what we find exciting now.)

But there was one bloom that was holding out a few days longer than the rest.

And again, the excitement we had when we saw that it had opened...maybe we need to pick up a new hobby.

It reminds me so much of the plant from Little Shop of Horrors.  I start singing "Suddenly, Seymour" in my head every time I pass it.

And if you weren't a kid in the 80's, and have no idea what I'm talking about, here you go.
