Exciting Stuff

Jason had a board meeting today and my job was the keep the kids and Chloe quiet.  JR was easy to keep quiet, we just didn't wake him up, but Chloe is more difficult.  She's not a fan of the mailman, or squirrels in her backyard, or people walking down her street.

So we went for a little ride (since there's no place to go).  Reed even asked if he had to put on a shirt or shoes.  (Um, no. There's no place to go inside.)

So here's how we entertained ourselves today.  Exciting stuff over here.

Homeschool Week #1

Homeschool week 1 went exactly as you would think it would go.

Reed finished his math work for the week by Monday at 10:00 AM.  JR is insistent that he "has no work" and gets up at noon everyday when we make him get up.  Kyle does his work because he "has to", but also does the bare minimum and then brings it to me to "check"...knowing that my "checking" turns in to just doing it for him since that's the easiest and fastest way to get through it.

They've all had zoom calls for different classes.  Kyle and Reed's first zooms looked like this.

I don't have any picture of JR because, well, he's usually just asleep.

And how is the zoom going?  Well...
-Kyle and JR have both been told they need to wear a shirt to their zoom class.

-Kyle said one girl in science class just held her hamster up to the camera the entire time, so of course, he did the same thing with Chloe the next day.

- Kyle was also the reason the comment section got turned off in his English zoom when he commented "cool flag" as one of his friends was zooming from his bed with a giant "Trump 2020" flag behind him.

I'm so glad I'm not a teacher right now.

Social Distancing

Kyle and Reed went to social distance with their friend, Finn, at his farm.  They had tons of fun camping out and shooting off fireworks.

Of course they didn't want to come home (who would? there's nothing to do here).  They entertained me as I was sitting at home doing nothing by sending me lots of pictures of the fish they caught.  (And a rabbit Reed shot, but I'll spare you that image.)

Puzzle 1

So....we finished a 1,000 piece puzzle in less than a week (and Kyle and Reed were gone 4 days in there). JR is the one who picked out the puzzle, and he didn't help us put in one piece.

Before the World Shut Down 2

Jason and I didn't go hunting but we did go out to eat a lot (before the world shut down).  We decided that if we ate on a patio that would be "safe".  We even let Chloe go, and as you can see, she thoroughly enjoyed brunch!

2 Ways to Fish

Reed caught fish the "normal" way.

And this is how Kyle catches fish.

I asked Reed if Kyle was able to get the fish all the way out of the water and he said, "oh yes, but I didn't get a picture because Grandpa was screaming at him to put it back because he was going to kill it."

Before The World Shut Down

The boys were able to go hunting over the weekend with Grandpa Gary and Granny Buffie before the world shut down.  They all had lots of fun.  Not my kind of fun, but certainly fun for them!

And Reed was the only one to get a pig.

Stupid Cornoavirus

Well this stupid virus has taken out everything, including the rodeo.  We got to go one night to see Midland, and the other 3 or 4 times we were planning on going got cancelled.  It makes me so sad for the kids who didn't get to show their animals, and all the vendors who make the majority of their income in these 3 weeks.

At least all of us got to go, Kyle wasn't in these pictures because he came to the rodeo after diving and Jason and I didn't sit with the kids.

He made a Big Splash (Figuratively not Literally)

We were so proud of Kyle this weekend.  Not only did he win 1st place on the 1 and 3 meter, but he qualified for Nationals on both boards!

I was so occupied calculating Kyle's scores, and trying to figure out if he was going to qualify for Nationals, that I had no idea he won until they announced him as the winner.

Lucky for us Nationals is back in San Antonio this year, so it will just be a short drive down the road (in July) for him to compete.

One Act Play

JR has been busy with UIL One Act Play.  They did The Diviners, which I had never heard of.  It was a sad and serious play, but, of course, JR's part wasn't sad or serious.

They won at their zone competition

and competed at district last night. They didn't advance out of district, but they had lots of fun.

I think this is his last show for the school year since he wants to focus on umpiring (so he can make some money), but I'm sure he'll find his way on a stage before the end of the year.

Double The Fun

Reed hit one of the most beautiful doubles yesterday at his baseball game.

And Kyle did one of the most beautiful doubles last week at the pool.

Doubles aside, Reed got hit with the ball twice in one game, but since then, he's had some really pretty hits (which is way better than getting hit).
