Happy B-Day

I had lunch with my daddy for his birthday today.

And since I'm not nearly as fun to look at as little calves and kids.  Here's pictures with my dad and all the kids...with calves.

Leftovers

So here's what didn't make the cut for March.

Kyle eating a cinnamon roll.

These two modeling their costumes for their Texas A-Z show
.
They're excited to report they got speaking parts in the 1st grade spring musical/play "Bugs".
Reed is Stink Bug (the only sting bug in the show)
and Kyle is a cricket. (All the boys in Kyle's class are crickets.)

bumper cars

JR with the Houston Rodeo mascot.

Reed up to bat.

I think he's trying to throw a gang sign.

JR snuggling/getting kisses from a calf.

Kyle "swimming" during spring break.

I Might Have Had 2 Snow Cones

We went over to Camp Olympia yesterday for their open house since all the kids are going this summer.
(JR is going for 3 weeks, and Kyle and Reed are going for a week.)

We couldn't stay very long, but we were able to get in some....

 canoeing

and minigolf

and whatever this is called

and the rock wall

And, of course, snow cones.

Yep, it was a good day.

Fashion Fabulous Friday

If cleats had looked this fancy when I was a kid, maybe I would have played sports.

Who are we kidding?  A tu-tu always wins.

We Let Them Pick

We've never really let Kyle and Reed do different activities. (Just to make it easy on ourselves.)
This spring, Kyle decided he didn't want to play baseball, but take tae kwon do instead.

And though he likes tae kwon do, he's discovered it isn't much fun going to a baseball game to watch all your friends and brother play.

Especially when they've won all their games.
Tonight's game: 16-0
 2 runs by Reed

I expect to see Kyle on the baseball field next spring.

Over

So yes, spring break came to an end yesterday, but guess what else did?
The rodeo.

The Houston rodeo is 20 days and we went to 6 of them.

Enjoy this next section of pictures, which is basically a bunch of selfies of Jason and me.
(And if you're wondering why some are in the car...there's a lot of traffic to get to the rodeo, so it gave us something to do.)

Rodeo #1- Miranda Lambert.  She's skinner and shorter than you think she is.

Rodeo #2- Fall Out Boy.
This is the Houston rodeo mascot.  If you can't tell, he's an "H" wearing a hat.

Rodeo #3- Zac Brown Band.

Rodeo #4- Pitbull. He was fantastic!!!
You can imagine the dancing on my part.
(Jason even admitted he knew all the songs and the show was "good.")

Rodeo #5- Florida Georgia Line

Rodeo #6 was last night, the final night, and it was Luke Bryan.
Luke, along with Miranda Lambert, were my other favorites.  Say what you will about Luke Bryan (he definitely shakes his bootie for the girls) but he can sing. He did lots of acapella arrangements, and his voice sounds just like it does on the radio.

Until next year HLSR!
Which gives me plenty of time to add another cowboy hat to the collection.

SB Update #4

So even though there was lots of candy, cookie, ice cream, and chocolate fountain (a la Golden Corral) eating at Maw-Maw and Paw-Paw's, the most exciting thing happened back in Houston.

JR finally earned his own cell phone, and no, it's not a new one.
(Jason got a new one and JR got his old one.)

Kyle is not very happy with this new turn of events.

SB Update #3 /St. Patty's Day So Everybody is in Green

Yesterday got progressively better as the day went on.

We started out having to get Kyle and Reed's passports renewed.
(You have to do it in person for kids.)

That was super fun for everybody involved.  So much so, that at one point Reed tried to mail himself to Maw-Maw thinking he might get there quicker that way.

Fortunately, we were able to get to Maw-Maw and Paw-Paw's without mailing ourselves, and (as expected) there was ice cream almost immediately.

And how do you top ice cream?
The only way I know is bottle feeding baby calves.

SB Update #2

We were able to stay busy this Monday of spring break.

I bribed the kids that I'd make them cinnamon rolls for breakfast if they slept in and/or didn't wake me up early.
It worked.

Kyle and Reed taught themselves to walk on stilts in about 10 minutes.
I'm thinking circus performer might be an actual career path if nothing else pans out.

And I even have video evidence.

We made Oreo-M&M Bars...cause I'm the best mom in the world.

And Kyle thought swimming would be a good idea.

Actually, Kyle has been begging to go swimming for awhile now. I figured it would take less time to let him just do it, and see how cold it was, than argue with him why it was too cold.
I was right.  I don't think he'll be asking anymore.

Spring Break Update #1

We're 2 days into spring break and it's already been quite "exciting".

There's been bike riding.

Crazy selfie taking.

And a winning baseball game (Reed sliding into home scoring a run).

Texas A to Z

Yesterday was the 1st grade Texas A to Z production.
Some kids had speaking parts, (thanks to JR's talent as the morning anchor of the school news, both  mine were assumed to have some public speaking genes and assigned parts) but everybody got to sing a few Texas songs.

Kyle was cowboy #7 and got to say "The cowboy's pants are the color blue. These Levi's last the whole year through".

His costume was easy since these same cowboy duds date back to JR's preK days.

The chaps were either deemed too small before we moved and I got rid of them, or lost in the move, so Kyle and I made new chaps.
Both costumes required sewing and both kids were excited to help me (I could have finished so much faster if they hadn't wanted to help so much).

Reed was ice cream.
We made the ice cream out of felt, stuffed it with fluff, and sewed it on.
We just hot glued the "Blue Bell" letters on.

Reed's line was "I is for ice cream. Blue Bell is the best ice cream in the country. Yum!"

After he said his line, the parents broke out in whoops, cheers, and giggles.
What can I say? We Texans are seriously serious about our Blue Bell...just like our Dr. Pepper, which if you look on the top row, you can see was also a part.

Mud Pit

The kids' school had their fun run for the PTA yesterday.
It's been raining and cold all week (I'm so glad this isn't our spring break).

Guess what happens when it's been raining nonstop since Sunday?
There's water standing everywhere...which turns into a big muddy mess.

Luckily, just a change of shoes and socks was all JR needed (I didn't actually see him since he doesn't want anybody to know he has parents) but check out the other two.

When I say they were covered in mud, I mean it. Look at Reed's mud splattered face!

This is Kyle. You can also see by his t-shirt how many laps he ran.

I stayed at school after the run and tried to help clean up children...because all this went down at 9:45 in the morning!
(I can't imagine trying to teach such dirty, stinky kids the rest of the day.)
I'm glad I'm used to boys because that was certainly a big mess.
