Look What We Made

JR's Willy Wonka musical is just 2 weeks away, so during rehearsals, we (the parents) have had to start prop building.

I thought Kyle and Reed would just play their computers, but no, they wanted to be right in the middle of it.
So, we put them to work in 'Veruca Salt is a bad nut' scene props.

Ripping and wadding up paper towels to use for stuffing.

Then they got to use their stuffing to make acorns. (They don't have the tops on them yet.)

And if you're a betting man/woman, I'd put big money down that as soon as those acorns appear on stage they're going to squeal "I made those!!!"

They also got put on squirrel ear duty.
Cause that's a normal evening for a 5 year old...squirrel ear making.

Two of his Favorites

So did you know professional roller hockey was a thing?
Neither did I.

Kyle doesn't like roller hockey practice as much as the games.
Yesterday he was kinda messing around on the rink, and then suddenly I could see his face light up... even through his helmet.

He's had such a thing for cats ever since he found Mittens Kitten.
So when the cat mascot rolled onto the floor, Kyle was right next to him.
For the rest of practice.

Kyle was in heaven.

Tricked Out Trunk or Treat

We had 21,000 people come to our church's Halloween party!
(Flatirons Church is the 2nd fastest growing church in the US.)

I signed up to work trunk or treat (cause decorating and candy is right up my alley) and conned Debbie and Anna into helping me.

I couldn't have gotten the decorations pulled together without them, and though we certainly couldn't compete with Buddy the Elf's tree farm
(You can see Buddy "working" on his computer.  I'm sure he's checking Christmas list emails...or maybe he's just playing Candy Crush.)

or the alien space ship
(Yes, there's an actual car somewhere underneath all that.)

I think we did pretty good.
(And we were the only American themed car out there.)

Anna went the Cute Americana costume route.

Debbie and I look like 4th of July threw up on us.

And after 2 1/2 hours of solid candy passing-outing, I can tell you the top costumes of the year are:

Boys: Spiderman, Ninja, Scream, Minecraft
Girls: Minnie Mouse, Princess (mainly of the Disney variety), Cleopatra, Monster High

Fashion Fabulous Friday

Playing soccer in a skull cap seems like a good idea...

until you take it off,  and you wind up looking like Nick Nolte's mug shot.

Awesome and More Awesome

So, as it turns out, the kindergarten winner of the "guess how many marshmallow ghosts are in the bucket and win $10 at the book fair" contest just happens to be a member of this family.

(Reed guessed 700 and there were 800ish ghosts.)

Here he is spending his extra 10 bucks with Mrs. Debbie and Emily working the cash register.

And if winning $10 isn't exciting enough, there's more.
I've always liked the kids' school, but now I'm totally sold.

No obama books anywhere to be found, and look at this little gem prominently displayed.

Now that's a Book Fair!

I Love Everything About This

Reed brought this home from school the other week.
Even though it's about him, Jason wasn't nearly as excited about it as I was.

Whenever I was this age, all the pictures I drew of my dad had him working in the yard.
Grandpa Gary is also an awesome landscaper.

Yep, Reed's got a double dose of "come look how pretty my azaleas look" genes.
I'm thinking we'll definitely find him out in the yard as he grows up.

(By the way, how much do we love that he made Jason's hair gray!)

Quite a Crew

One thing's for sure...

Kyle certainly wasn't lonely watching TV this morning.

Where Have I Been?

I know, I know.
I hardly ever go 3 days without blogging.

But, extreme times call for extreme measures.
And nowhere is quite as extreme as Vegas.

We flew out Thursday with our friends, Scott and Debbie, and spent the weekend:

Seeing two shows...Absinthe and Love

Eating waaayyy too much at every celebrity chef's restaurant we could find.
(Yes, that says 'Tom Colichio's')

Sitting by the pool.
Snow in Denver. 80 and sunny in Vegas.

Stalking out Britney's next two years.

Drinking girly drinks.
(The boys like the girly drinks better than the girls!)

And, oh yeah, we did a tiny bit of gambling too.
I spent exactly $5 in this machine.
I thought it would bring me luck.
 It did not.

Mad Kids

The whole house was furious that we didn't have school Monday (teacher workday).

Kyle and Reed were mad because they love school, and it was art day, and they were going to miss art.

They were treating me like I was the reason they didn't have school.
Believe me, I get it. I was just as upset as they were about no school!

JR was mad because I asked him to take out the trash and clean up his room.
I know. Slave driver.

After gymnastics class I tried to appease them with a craft.
It certainly wasn't the awesomeness of art class, but we now have a shark and a kitten hanging in the window.

They also went to get flu shots.
Which turned into getting the flu mist because Walgreens was out of shots.
So then they got to complain about not getting a shot.
Who does that?

Things took a turn for the better when they got to play hockey.
Kyle was goalie and actually blocked a shot while doing the splits, and Reed scored two goals.

And where was JR during all this?
He had a collecting leaves for the 4th grade leaf project "date".

I'm assuming he had a good time since evidence of the "date" appeared on Facebook...and he was all smiles.

More Picture Review

Continuing from yesterday...

Dairy Queen really does earn that royalty title.

The bow is just a touch bigger than the archer.

I was too lazy to get out of my chair so I could have a picture of his face.

The K probably gives away which one that is with Granny Sherry.

Reed played with a butterfly on the way to school.

And posed with a dolphin inside it.

Kyle found Mittens Kitten at Garden Ridge.
Debbie and I were the first customers at the grand opening...yep, we're cool like that.

Anna sent me this one.
They were testing out her new phone...which is about a million times nicer than mine.

Picture Review

I decided to clean out the pictures on my phone.

These have no theme, except that they've been sitting on my phone for quite awhile...
and JR isn't in any of them.

Kyle and Reed put themselves in charge of cups at our Memorial Day party.

Unlike the Friends episode, they were not in charge of ice as well.

They like to go to Sonic.
No shirts, no shoes, no problem.

Pinkberry tastes good.

You'd think they were twins or something.

Eating pizza with Paw-Paw.
Firehouse Pizza in Lovelady, TX might want to up their decor.  The boxes don't seem to be cutting it.

Whisper the Cat had to walk to school with us on the first day.

If you demand to have your picture taken with a cardboard cut-out of Uncle Si...
in a Walmart...

You might be a redneck.

Fashion Fabulous Friday

Today I'm showing you my front porch, cause that's where the fashion fabulousness is happening.

My front porch animals are all dressed-up for Halloween.

My bear is dressed as a pumpkin.  With a purse.

Have I told you about my bear? I saw him in front of a store on our way to Crested Butte.  I made Jason U-turn in the middle of the road and go back and buy him for me.
I love him.
(I do love Jason, but in this sentence "him" was referring to the bear.)

My dog is dressed as a cat.  I think it's hilarious.
The dog does not seem to share in my love of the irony.

Here's the whole porch.
I don't have any pumpkins yet since I'm keeping my plants out as long as the weather will let me.

Black Cats (and pumpkins) Abound

I'm so glad that it's Halloween decoration time (cause that means Christmas decorations going up is right around the corner)!

I usually put all my Halloween stuff in one location, but this year I decided to mix-it-up (literally) and put it around the house.

I also took down lots of our framed pictures and replaced them with Halloween pictures (or them just dressed in costume) of the kids.

I love how it turned out.  I'll be doing it this way from now on.

Puck Dynasty

Granny Sherry and I have really gotten into the kids' roller hockey games.
We seem to be self-proclaimed experts in all areas.

-We mumble under our breath about the kids who can't skate up to par (in our opinion they're just taking up space...those parents need to take them to a skating lesson and come back later).

-Coach Kyle and Reed from behind the hockey glass wall (like they can hear us).

-And pout when "ours" aren't on the rink and other kids are actually getting a turn.

Needless to say, we are the epitome of fine Christian women when we're at the games.
Thank goodness this is only the Kindergarten-2nd grade league, can you imagine how bad we'd be if they actually kept score?!

Speaking of keeping score, check out these two goals.

This is Reed.  You get to enjoy both Granny's coaching and my cheering.

This is Kyle. More coaching and cheering are audible, of course.

Picture Day Results

Here are their official kindergarten pictures.

I'm not one for cheesy backgrounds, but they begged for the lockers, and they actually turned out pretty cute (way better than some crazy neon starbursts)!

If you're looking for the official 4th grade picture, that doesn't exist since the 4th grader in the house was too busy sitting in a deer blind in Kansas to go to school for something as non-eventful as picture day.
