First Paycheck

JR is home from church camp.
The first thing he said to me wasn't that he missed me or had fun, but  "Mom! I met Southern Mama!"

Southern Mama is an Internet star/comedian that is actually really funny.
JR saw him walking down the hall at their condo (yes, Southern "Mama" is a guy) and JR went up to him and told him he was a big fan.  JR said he was very nice.

(This is Southern Mama if you haven't seen him.)

He also got his first ever paycheck today.
We've been waiting on his voice over money to arrive, and if finally came today.

Along with his check he got a nice note saying that JR did a great job, and sorry his check was so late but they were having trouble getting paid by their clients.

Only Children

Kyle has been my only child for the past 5 days.  He had a list of things to do.

He wanted to go to Choo-Choo Sushi, but only out of spite.  Kyle doesn't even like sushi, but Reed does, and Reed has been wanting to go...so that's why Kyle picked it.

I'm not sure any of us really wanted to see Ghostbusters, but it's the only thing our little family of 3 could agree on.

Then I took him to see Secret Life of Pets (which I thought was super cute) with friends. They didn't care that they don't know who Thelma and Louise are, they just wanted the photo-op.

He also put Dave and Busters on the list.

And then for a surprise, Cassidy and her boys came for a visit and a spend the night.

Reed came home today from Maw-Maw and Paw-Paw's where some of his activities included:

The claw machine at Brookshire Brothers

A requested visit to the Texas Prison Museum (he loves it)

Lots of eating out

 BB gun target practice

And fishing. (Reed caught 22 fish!)
The fish don't get eaten, they just get moved to the "big" pond.

JR is absent from all pictures because he is at church camp until tomorrow night.
I can only imagine he's having a blast since church camp involves staying in beachfront condos in Panama City, FL.

Little Pitchers

Kyle and Reed both got to pitch 2 innings at their last baseball game.

They both reported that it's a lot harder to pitch when there's a batter swinging at the ball!

They had never pitched before, and Reed was able to strike out 3 kids.

Here he is pitching.
(For you non baseball fans, JR is commentating, so you'll know what's going on.)

Kyle didn't strike anybody out, but he did as good as anybody else...he threw a few strikes, and he didn't hit any kids with the ball so I'm calling that a success.

This video also had Reed throwing to 3rd base to get a kid out who was trying to steal.

Water Walking

We went out to Lake Conroe yesterday so Jason could do his Father's Day present.

I'm not sure if you call it fly boards or hydro rockets.
(Maybe the "shoes" are hydro rockets and what he's doing is called fly boarding?)

By the end of his 20 minutes worth of "flying" time he looked like he knew what he was doing.

I'm Impressed

Kyle and Reed are always getting me to come watch their tricks.
But this particular trick I was actually really impressed with.

I've told you before that no matter how hard I tried, I never could  learn to dive.  So I guess that's why I found this so exciting.

Gator Boys

This is the year everybody ran out and got a giant inflatable swan for their pool.

Except us, of course.

Goats Were There Too

Kyle and Reed got a wild hog hunt for Christmas from Grandpa Gary and Granny Buffie, and they went this weekend.

They practiced shooting, and were both able to get a bulls-eye at 45 yards.

They settled in to the deer stand and had visits from horses, pet pot-bellied pigs, and even goats.

Kyle got a hog at 85 yards behind the ear in one shot.
(I'm not sure what all that means, but supposedly it's great.)

Jason thinks it was between 150-200 pounds. And obviously it was a boy.

Showing off the blood on his face for his first kill.

Reed missed his hog, but redeemed himself the next morning when he caught 5 perch.

They said they had lots of fun with Grandpa and Daddy.

Back to the Ball Field

So baseball is back.

Kyle and Reed missed the first two weeks of summer ball since they were at camp. Then JR and I missed their first game because we went to see Wicked.  (It was SO good!) But JR and I were able to make it out to their Thursday game.

They moved up to kid pitch in this league, so it's a lot different.  Most of the runs are scored by stealing bases.  And the reason Kyle and Reed have mainly made it to base is because they've gotten hit by the ball.

JR also set himself up as commentator/DJ again.

Here's Reed stealing 2nd base (I used this one since you can hear JR at the end)

And here's Kyle stealing home.

So That's It

JR has handled coming back home from camp much better than I expected.

I can't imagine why....

All Home

Everybody is back home.
They all had fun, but they were glad to see us too (which was nice).

I won 1st place in car decorating for both drop offs, so I was happy about that.

JR got most outstanding in fishing (he caught the most bass and the biggest) and Reed got most outstanding in arts and crafts (of course he did).

Here's what the laundry situation looked like.
I can't tell what all didn't make it back home, but I do know that I hardly washed any socks at all.

And if you're wondering, it was 8 loads.

That's The End

Today is the last day of my being an emptynester.
Two weeks went by really fast (Three for JR).

Jason and I are predicting that 2 of the 3 will be happy to see us, but would prefer to say "hi"and then have us get back in the car and leave them there for the rest of the summer.
1 of the 3 will have had lots of fun, but will be happy to head back home with mom and dad (and would want the other 2 to get in the car and go with him).

Best I can tell, they had a pretty good time.

15 Years

Jason and I had our 15th wedding anniversary on June 23rd.  But we didn't celebrate until this past weekend.  We went to Travassa in Austin and it was amazing.

It's a destination spa with activities.  Basically we went to adult camp while the kids were at camp.

The giant swing (which is totally misnamed because 'swing' makes it sound easy and fun and it was super scary) and the ropes course were a bit much for me. (Ok, more than a bit!) I actually had to have one of the instructors help me through the whole ropes course.
(Which also should be renamed "come walk a bunch of tight ropes".)

I was much better at the activities that weren't so high up in the air.

Jason was awesome at axe throwing.

But, I was at least able to do it.

I was also able to paddle board...and not fall off!

And, of course, I was a total master at all the spa activities!

The food is all farm to table, which is a little too healthy and organic for Jason and me, so thank goodness Jason ordered up plenty of cheese trays.

And we were able to find the s'mores on the way home from dinner!

We had a great time, and I'd be happy to go back!

Happy 4th

I don't have any floats or bikes to decorate this year since the kids are at camp, so I decorated the dog.

She was not impressed.

Happy Independence Day!
