How Reed Plays Ball

Continuing from Thursday in my T-ball series (don't worry, this is the last in that series) here's Reed.

He pays attention, does what he's supposed to, and does it all with a smile.

Fashion Fabulous Friday

Everybody in the house (but me) got haircuts this week.

Reed and Hunter modeling their new trims.

And when I say everybody got haircuts...

I mean, everybody.

How Kyle Plays Ball

Kyle is about as enthused with T-ball as I am.

He understands the game, he just finds waayyy more exciting things to do.

Chattin' with the other team

Cleaning the plates

Digging in the dirt.

Running in circles

Pretending to be The Last Airbender/Practicing his Tai Chi
(As you'll see, he has a whole routine for this one.)

And don't think you can snap him out of it by sliding into his base.
He is totally unimpressed.

Don't Tell Them it Looks Like a Giant Boa

I know you know what time of year it is....

4th of July parade decorating time!

Our summer schedule doesn't work out where I can spend a week decorating bicycles, so we're having to combine all our efforts into one "float".  (My dad's trail wagon.)

I just finished this garland/swag today.  I saw it on Pinterest and actually made it.

Super time consuming, but super easy.

It's just Christmas lights (they don't work) with cut up plastic tablecloths.

The kids love it, and Reed declared it'd win us 1st place.

A in W Part 2

So besides the infamous Humpty Dumpty, JR also played two other parts in Alice in Wonderland.
He was "triple casted" as he likes to call it.

Now that JR is an act-tor, there's certain things he needs to work on to "improve his craft".
(Isn't that the fancy theater way to say it?)

JR's issue? Being still on stage.
He's great when he's talking or has something specific he needs to be doing, but if he's just standing there, he tends to fidget.

His director told me she purposely assigned him two nonspeaking roles that required him to be still.
A tree and a card guard.

JR said they were the hardest parts he's ever had!

JR knows all about camouflage from hunting, but this takes the cake!

JR's friend, Nolan, was also in the play.
One of his parts was the maple tree (he's standing next to JR).

Do you see him standing behind the Queen of Hearts?
Standing. Just standing.
Serious acting for JR. Seriously serious.

Nolan was also the King of Hearts. And there's JR, still being...still.

I love it when JR does things and I think, "Yep, I'd have done the same thing".
JR was a tree, then Humpty Dumpty, and then card, so at the end of the play he was in his card costume.
JR raised his hand in class and asked which costume he should wear for the curtain call since he was three parts?

Translation: "I want to make sure everybody knows I was Humpty Dumpty, can I change back into that costume so I can get my due applause ?"

Not to fear, the answer was yes.
So it was a very successful play, he got his applause in the curtain call
(coming out with the Guard Frog)
and he conquered his acting nemesis...stillness.

Sitting On a Wall: Check

Tonight was Alice in Wonderland.
This was a one week production, one week as in: audition on Monday and put on the show Saturday.

I'll be real honest with you, JR wanted to be the Mad Hatter (Um, who doesn't? It's the best part!)
We rehearsed the Mad Hatter (and the March Hare...just in case, ya know, for back up).

So when the cast list came in on Tuesday morning, I was a little confused when I didn't see JR's name by the Mad Hatter (or the March Hare, or the White Rabbit).

It took me a minuted to process, and find his name under...Humpty Dumpty.

Now, thankfully JR is exactly like me when it comes to the dramatics.  And I knew how he was going to react to not being the Mad Hatter.

But being that he's exactly like me, I know exactly what I want to hear in times of crisis.
(And yes, this would be considered a time of crisis.)

So after a pep talk about how Humpty Dumpty is now the end-all-be-all of Alice in Wonderland characters EVER
(and ignoring the fact that I didn't even know Humpty Dumpty was in Alice in Wonderland)
I got him on board with it.

I mean, that is a pretty great costume, right?

And he did get a whole scene for just Alice and himself
("3 pages of the script" as he likes to put it...not that he's counting).

And it really did let him bring something to the character.

And here's his whole Humpty Dumpty scene for the grandparents.
I can't get YouTube to post, so for now, just click here:

(It's 4 minutes, so if you want the gist, just watch the first 30 seconds.)

Fashion Fabulous Friday

Kyle and Reed have been seriously in to making bracelets this summer.
I have helped braid more bracelets than I care to count.

They've made bracelets for themselves, each other, Jason, JR, and their friends. I think they even tried to make one for the dog.
They've adorned them with football beads, regular beads, and letters.

Here's just a sampling from Reed's own personal stash.

They've been parading all over town like this. People think they're gypsies.

She's Returned!

Our favorite house guest is back for the week!

I do get a little worried that maybe Zoe will get sore from all the petting and cuddling

But, I can't blame the kids, it's just impossible to resist this face.

Plus, it's so refreshing to have another girl in the house!

I'm Not Sure What You've Heard

There's a rumor going around that I recently had a birthday.
Now, being my mother's daughter, we all know I stopped having birthdays years ago.

So, there may have been some fun things that happened over the weekend, but they were certainly not related to my birthday.

Yep, just because we thought it would be fun, and not because of any reason to celebrate, we went on a segway tour around downtown.

They were super easy to ride, so much fun, and I highly recommend doing a segway tour anywhere they're offered.

It's hard to see, but if you look at the step I'm sitting on it says "one mile above sea level" which is on the steps of the Capitol Building.

Small (altitude) potatoes for Durango, but impressive for the sea level Texans.

There just happens to be two other friends in the neighborhood who also may or may not have celebrated birthdays this weekend.
We figured it was a good excuse for a block party that included 2 bouncy houses, a pop corn machine, pizza, ice cream, cake, and a herd of kids!

Happy Father's Day!

We've got lots of daddies to wish a happy, happy day!

(I dug in the picture vault for these.)

Grandpa Gary
With Kyle, oops, I mean a 5 year old Jason.

With JR

That's Reed with Jason and Kyle with Gary.

My sweet Daddy (Yay!)
With JR...oops, I mean a 7 or 8 year old me.

With the real JR

With Reed (At least, I'm about 85% sure it's Reed.)

But I do know this one is Kyle.

And, of course, Jason.
With the little ones clearly labeled.

And his Father of the Year photo.
What were thinking taking a 5 year old and twin 8 month olds to Six Flags?
Clearly, we were delirious.

For the "Love" of the Game

I can't remember to bring my fancy camera to T-ball.
I had it at every soccer game, but T-ball...um, not so much.

I figured I should take some pictures with my phone before I missed the whole season.

Unfortunately, there's not a lot of action at T-ball, so here's what I've got for ya:

Sun in their eyes near a kid with a T-shirt on inside out.

Taking time out of an "exciting" game to pose for me.

A hat dance

JR just as thrilled to cheer on his brothers as he is at their other sporting events.

And the bestest-best part of the evening...
Shakes after the game!
