2017 Year in Review

On this last day of 2017 here are the highlights/milestones/ridiculousness from our year.
Presenting our annual blog spectacular.

January

JR could still fit through the doggie door.

He's taller than me now (even in my heels) but still just as skinny, so I'm not sure if he could still do this or not.

February

Houston hosted the Super Bowl.

I got to go to one of the "fancy" parties.

Jason got to go to the actual game.

And JR lost his mind that Tom Brady won....again.

March

We went to Costa Rica for Spring Break.
Everyone had fun.

April

Baseball season was in full swing, and everybody had a job to do.

May

Everyone showed off their best performances when JR hosted the pop show and sang a solo.

And Kyle and Reed's talent show act brought down the house.

June

Kyle and Reed complained nonstop about me making them do swim team.

Reed qualified for the Meet of Champs and Kyle discovered his love of diving....proving (once again) that mom is always right.

July

My parade "float" came in 2nd to the VFW. I took my loss better than usual.

August

Harvey came for an unwelcome visit.

September

Reed played in his 1st tennis tournament.

Kyle started taking diving lessons from an actual coach instead of Youtube videos.

October

JR went to high school homecoming as an 8th grader.

November

The Astros won the world series on November 1st.
Houston and JR lost their minds.

And Kyle and Reed were the starts of their Veteran's Day program.

December

It snowed and all of Houston lost their minds again.

We are looking forward to 2018!

All Up

I didn't go crazy with the Christmas decorations this year.  Too many people still aren't back in their homes from Harvey, so I thought it would be in poor taste to go all out.

With only 2 Christmas trees (and a little Astros World Series Champs tree) putting it all away on the 26th was a snap.

Although I will miss Chloe's cute Christmas collar she's been wearing around.

Chloe looked so cute I even got one for Granny Sherry's dog, Daisy, so they could be twins when Chloe was staying with Daisy while we were skiing.

Texas/Texans Christmas!

We had a very nice Christmas here in Houston (our first Christmas we have been at home in 3 years).

The boys all seemed to get just what they wanted from Santa, and Santa was even nice enough to lay out the presents Jason and I picked out for ourselves when we were on our cruise.
(I didn't take any pictures.)

Granny Sherry cooked a perfect traditional Norwegian Christmas lunch for us and all the grandparents (I didn't take any pictures) and then we took off for the Texans game. (I do have pictures!)

I feel asleep on the couch last night around 8:30, so I'm calling it a successful Christmas all around.

Christmas Eve

We rolled in from our ski vacay around 4:00 this afternoon.

We were at church before 6:00 for the Christmas Eve candle light service.

(Kyle and Reed got one picture by themselves as JR had to jump out and fix his hair.)

Santa's treats were laid out by 9:00.
The boys put careful thought in to what Santa is going to want.
(Yes, that's Nutella and a Coke)

And it's now 11:15 and I do believe I just heard Santa's sleigh pull away from the house.

Merry Christmas!

Elf Watch

We are headed out on our annual ski vacation, but Sam the Elf (and his new cat) are going to hold down the fort here.

See you after Christmas!

3 of 3

Our 3rd Christmas concert in 5 days was last night and it was totally worth the wait.

Kyle and Reed's 4th grade choir looked absolutely adorable in all their Christmas wear.

But I'm pretty sure my two were the cutest.

To get this pictures of the boys I had to promise them I would video them flossing so they would be still.

I made good on my promise.

2 of 3

JR had his Christmas choir concert last night and they sounded so amazing.
I'm already getting a little sad that this is his last year with his choir teacher.

The boys sang "Jolly Old St. Nicholas"

And then the advanced combined choirs sang "Carol of the Bells"

and "White Winter Hymnal"

2 Early Mornings!

Kyle had a diving meet this weekend, which required us to leave the house at 6:30 AM both mornings so he could be there by 7:00 to warm up.

When I woke him up at 6:15 on Saturday morning and told him it was time to go dive, he immediately had a huge smile on his face.  So he must really love it because I don't smile about anything that early.

He tied for 4th place in 3 meter springboard (that's 10 feet) and I think he learned a lot about competing.

He said he had fun which is all that ever matters.

I got nervous watching him dive and would forget to video, but I did get these.
(Kyle is the one on the board closest to the camera in the long speedo.)

He had a diving fan club with him.

And I made sure to get my picture with him since I'm the one that drives him across town to lessons twice week.  So like 10% of that 4th place victory is mine, right?

1 of 3

We have 3 choir concerts in 5 days.

Last night was our 1st one when Reed sang with the Spring Branch Boys Choir.  The Spring Branch Boys and Girls Choirs both performed and they all sounded good.

Boys choir has been hard scheduling wise since he's had to miss his tennis class.  With basketball starting up and baseball right around the corner, there's just no way to continue on, but we finished out the first semester and we're going to call it a success.

Reed had a big audience.

And a big taco to celebrate.

It Didn't even Freeze

The Gulf, Central, and East Texas all collectively lost their minds last night because it snowed.

And technically, yes it did snow.

But after living in Colorado almost 7 years it's kind of laughable.

I'm just so proud that we didn't cancel school.
(I mean, it didn't even stick to the concrete, but usually 1 flake of snow in the sky calls for a school cancellation.)

My mom even texted me their snow pictures.

Our snow was all gone by 8:00 this morning.
