Another Winner

I made it to Reed's basketball tournament just in time to see his first game.
Since Reed is a defensive player, he was definitely on fire with 6 points.

This is how sweaty you look after a 4 point win.

In his 2nd game he played great again and they won by 13 points.

When Jason texted me during their last game asking me how it was going I replied back with,
"Reed just took a kid down and made him cry".

Reed really never does anything maliciously, but this particular incident looked pretty bad. The coach sat him after it happened and I thought Reed had gotten kicked out of the game.  He hadn't; and the coach only sat him because it was his 3rd foul.

Reed even apologized to the kid after he got up off the floor. (Which was after they had stopped the game and clapped for the kid as he hobbled off crying.)

Reed got back in the game and finished with only 4 fouls.  On foul number 4 the ref actually looked at me shook his head and laughed.  So I guess even the refs like watching Reed play.
(I also think it's funny he knew he was mine, clearly I'm an "awesome" fan.)

They won that 3rd and final game which made them the tournament champions.

They were super excited.

Boo on the Boards

We left around 6:30 in the morning to get to Kyle's "Boo on the Boards" diving meet Saturday.

I was not expecting much from this meet.  Kyle was diving 13 and under JO (Junior Olympic) so I knew that would be tough going up against older kids.

In 3 meter (which is usually Kyle's best event) he had the lowest degree of difficulty points of any of the kids...which basically means he gets fewer points added to his score, so he has to dive his dives almost perfectly...which is pretty much what he did!

Kyle dove beautifully and was winning until the last round when his friend, Georgi, scored 8's on his hardest dive.  But we were thrilled with a 2nd place finish!  Plus, Georgi and Kyle were the only 10 year olds in the event.  All the other kids were 12

I had to leave after 3 meter to go to Reed's basketball tournament but Granny Sherry, Maw-Maw, and Paw-Paw were there to cheer him on.

Again in 1 meter, he and Georgi were the youngest.  I knew Kyle's degree of difficulty in 1 meter would make him more competitive, but I was still worried about diving against 12 year olds.

My plan was to keep up with Kyle's scores online, but it wasn't working. Sherry texted me saying "we can't hear or see the scores, but he looks good."  Unfortunately for us, lots of times the dives we think "look good" don't always get the numbers we thought they'd get.

By about the 4th round of dives the scores showed up, and it looked to me like Kyle would finish in the top 3.  According to Kyle there were lots of kids landing on their backs trying to land their doubles and twists, and one kid quit after the landing on his back in the first round.

We were all super proud that he finished 2nd!  And even better, if this had been a Nationals qualifying meet, Kyle would have been the only 13 and under boy to qualify in both 1 and 3 meter!

Kyle's got his pink shammy with him.
He always competes with the pink one because it's easy for us to spot to find him.

It was a great double silver medal day.

Field Day

It was another busy weekend and it started on Friday with field day.
It was their last one they'll have.

They were totally not in to it, and neither was I.  I showed up before it started and took 2 pictures and left.

Since you can't win, and there's no real competition, my kids just really don't care.

One of my friends sent me a video of Kyle hula-hooping, so I do have that.

Last Call

The elementary school directories came out this week and we got a shout out ad to go in it.

I think mine was the best one in the whole book.

A Big Finish

To finish off our big weekend this past week, we celebrated Granny Sherry's birthday on Sunday.

Sherry is such a huge help to me.  She drives Kyle to diving twice a week, and is always there to lend a hand picking up and taking the kids to and from wherever they need to be.
We definitely all depend on her!

We were happy to celebrate Granny at Benihanas on Sunday!

Region Choir

JR had to be at school at 6:45 Saturday morning (the morning after the homecoming game) to go to Region Choir auditions.  I picked JR up about 1:30 in the afternoon and he said he thought he did even better than he did at the District auditions.

I told him that there was probably no way he would make Region Choir since he was a freshman, but we were proud of him for auditioning.

While he was at the homecoming dance, one of the older choir girls told him he had made it.

He texted me and I could hardly believe it.  About 30 minutes later we got an email from the director confirming he had indeed made Region Choir.
Only the top 12 kids get to advance to Area, so he won't advance any further, but we were absolutely thrilled he did so great...especially as a freshman!

HoCo Dance

The Memorial High School homecoming dance was Saturday night and JR and his friends looked great.
They had a pre party/dinner at one of the girls' houses and then went to the dance.

After he got home from the dance, he invited himself to the all-girl afterparty next door, so it was definitely a big night.

Wheels

Reed had a basketball tournament this past weekend.  He's on a tournament team with a bunch of kids he played with last year.  His coach calls him "Wheels", and I can't think of a better name for him.

I love watching Reed run all over that court getting up in all those kids faces (or their chests since most of them are way taller).

They played 3 games and only won one.  Reed fouled out of one game and left to a round of applause, which I always think is funny.

A Night in Old Havana

I had to rely on other moms to send me pictures of JR from the homecoming game because Friday night Jason and I headed out on the neighborhood party bus to our last elementary school auction.

Jason and I went out with a bang and a parrot on my head.

We had a super fun night

We stayed until the end (of course) and I shut the dance floor down (of course).

Look at the Mum I Made!

JR went to the homecoming game last night.

We put lots of thought into his outfit.  I believe we achieved the perfect 90's frat boy look.

Look how cute they are.
And look how awesome the mum I made is!

JR and Dylan were lucky enough to have some extras dates to escort last night too.

Out

The Astros are out, but that doesn't mean I don't have some last pictures.

Jason and I were on TV the last time we went to the game.  Jason got noticed, but I'm there too...see me smiling big behind him?  It's when I see pictures like this I realize just how short I am!

Jason and Reed went to the game last night.  JR was supposed to go, but he couldn't handle it, so Reed took his place.
Reed and Jason went to the 1st game of the season and the last together.

And then Daniel Stumpf, who is a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, was in Jason's office today for Breast Cancer Awareness week.  His mom is Jason's assistant.

I Think it's Me

The Texans couldn't win until I started going.

I guess I'll have to show up for the rest of the games so they can win a few more.

Back to the Diving Board

Kyle had his first diving meet of the season this weekend.

He did a great job and finished 2nd in 1 meter and 1st in 3 meter (but he was the only one in his age group).

What we were most excited about was although this wasn't a Nationals qualifying meet, his scores would have qualified him for Nationals in both 1 and 3 meter.

So that is a great gage for how the season will go~

Here's a video of him diving from his last few practices and a few from his meet.

Fall Concert

Having a freshman in high school  is really keeping me on my toes.  I can't believe I haven't blogged since Monday.

JR's choir fall concert was Thursday night and I couldn't have been more impressed.

Their uniforms alone are impressive enough!

I had to run Reed from tennis to basketball before the concert, so JR rode with next door neighbor, Mary.  Don't they look gorgeous?  (And skinny!)

JR told me the day before the concert that he had a solo.  When I got excited he said "Well, it's like with 7 other people" so then I didn't think it was a big deal.

Only it was a big deal... the freshman boys were so cute!

And JR had a big fan club there to support him.

All The Wins

We got all the wins this weekend.

Texas Beat OU and JR almost had a heart attack during the game.

(Jason likes to point out that A&M also won, but I like to point out that nobody cares about A&M)

Then the Astros won!

And we had good seats at that game.

Here's one of Reed's favs Marwin Gonzalez

And then we went to the Texans-Cowboys game last night and the Texans won!

Havanagoodtime

We were one of the first group of families to get our yard "bashed" for the upcoming school auction.
The theme is "Havana Nights".

Kyle and Reed took the flower headbands that were included and spruced up their hats.

And, of course, Chloe is always up for any kind of car ride.

One of the Last

I went on the 5th grade field trip the other day and it will probably be one of the last I ever go on.
I thought I'd never be done with field trips and being the homeroom mom, and here it is, the last year.

I'm getting so sentimental I even took pictures on the bus.

Photo-op with some of the "it" girls.

We went to hear the Houston Symphony play.  I thought it was a fantastic and interesting day.

I finally ran in to Kyle after it was over!
