Good News in the News

Reed got some good news this week when he found out he'd been selected to be on his school's newspaper staff.

I like to think of myself as the writer in the house, but Reed is definitely better than me.  I'm excited to see what he'll be reporting on next year!

Lettered

Being a freshman on the varsity dive team means Kyle was already able to letter, and he got his jacket yesterday.  It's not cool to wear your letter jacket here, so I'm guessing the only time he'll break it out is maybe at a dive meet or when we go to Colorado.  But it will look nice hanging in his closet.

The Whole Weekend

Besides the Battle of the Bands, Jason and I got to do lots of fun things with JR over the weekend.

On Friday I was able to get a personal tour of one of the sorority houses and lunch (plus a tour) at another.  I took some pictures just so you could see the comparison between them and JR's house.

I still love JR's house, but the sorority houses are really something.

The living room difference is almost laughable.

And if you've seen the Blind Side, then this little sign will impress you.

The fraternity had a nice party for us Friday night.

And it was fun seeing JR and his friends.

This is the picture I got when I asked Jason to take a picture of me with "my friends".
I figure if JR can call my friends "his friends" I can call his friends my friends.
(Note to self: check Jason's picture taking skills in the moment).

Saturday we went to the house for a crawfish boil

And Saturday night Jason and I entertained ourselves while JR went to the "biggest thing to ever happen to Oxford" the Morgan Wallen concert.

Great Start

It's been a great start to Parents Weekend.

We were able to come in last night so we could see JR in his battle of the bands.

Jason and I before the show.

He played both the bass, and the starring role of JR being JR.

And they won!

Spaced Out

I think after today I'm all caught up on our happenings.  Jason and I were recently invited to a Space City Rodeo themed gala.  I wasn't sure what that dress code was, but I assumed sequins and cowboy boots would work.

I ran in to JR's old middle school principal (who JR loved) so we took this and sent it to him.

I ran into this guy, and I'm still not sure what team he's the mascot for.

And Jason and I did this thing that seems to be at every party we go to.

Also, Jason may or may not have found me on stage with the band (who, by the way, told me I was the "best thing that had happened all night") and made me go home.  I quickly text tattled on him to JR, who I knew would have my back in this situation!

Poor Jason. Always having to be the "adult".

25

Jason celebrated his 25th work anniversary last week.  To say that that is quite the accomplishment is an understatement.

It was, of course, pouring down rain (as it does for any important event or party we ever try to have) so this is the only picture Jason and I got together.

Everyone told stories about Jason and how patient and easy going he is. Which again, is an understatement.
To say I was proud is also an understatement.

It's amazing to see how far he's come from our first date when I was convinced he didn't have a "real job".

Last of the Year

We've been burning the candle at both ends around here, and it feels like we are finally able to catch up a bit since we ended the track season this week.

We had a new addition to the track meet when the pole vault coach saw Kyle in the hallway, assumed he was Reed's brother, found out he was on the dive team, and asked him to come out and pole vault.

Kyle showed up at the district meet after learning how to pole vault the day before.  I'm hoping he'll stick with it and we might have another pole vaulter in the family next year.

We all laughed that Kyle wasn't used to wearing so many clothes for a uniform!

Reed was killing it in vaulting and Jason turned to me and said "he's going to go over 10 feet today." I told him "Why would you say that?! Now he's not going to!"

But the way the meet was set up, they had all the field events and the 2 mile run on the same day.  So Reed left pole vaulting and went and ran a 11:53 finishing in 6th.

When he came back to pole vault he was up and had to go with no time to rest.  He was completely wiped out, and just couldn't do it.  So he also finished in 6th in pole vault.  Had the 2 mile run not been at the exact same time, I know we would have had different results in both the run and the pole vault.

He also ran in the district 1 mile this week.  Running under 5 minutes didn't even get you in the top 6, but Reed ran a respectable 5:24.

As we left the track meet he said, "I'm ready to go back to cross country".

Easter Weekend

Easter weekend was cold and rainy here in Houston, but we tried to make the best of it.

Jason and I made it to the family Easter party, where the sun finally came out late afternoon.

The boys tried their best to fish despite the weather.

Someone thought our Easter lunch steaks looked delicious.

And Reed told me I "actually did a good job on the Eater baskets".

Easter Best

Chloe did everything she could to avoid going to the groomers.

She hid

She camouflaged

She even talked back and told me "no"

Thank goodness all of her efforts failed, because she is definitely beautiful for Easter!

New Job

Reed has already started his summer job, and he worked his first two shifts this weekend.  He's the pool attendant at the racquet club, which means he signs people in to the pool and hands them a towel. He also opens all the umbrellas if he's opening and closes the umbrellas if he's closing.

We met some friends for dinner last night, so I took this picture of him in action on his first day.

Golden for Golden

At this point I'm not sure he knows he's in college to go to school. The Golden Child continues to have a golden time.  Thankfully I received very little photographic evidence of spring break, so this is March without spring break. But he did nail down his summer job, so at least he got that accomplished.
