Pre Halloween Costumes

We just ran out of candy on our street that looks like Mardi Gras this time of year, and my kids didn't wear these costumes.  It's just too hot!

But they did wear them to a Halloween party they went to Friday night, where they looked awesome!

I'm so crazy impressed with my horror make-up skills, I just wish I could do some pretty ones on myself!

Field Day Olympics

It's been such a busy weekend, so I'll start back at Friday.

The kids had their field day Olympics. Neither Reed's Australian team or Kyle's Canadian team won the spirit award, but I still thought they were cute.

Yes, that's Kyle in the afro, it was also crazy hair day for Red Ribbon Week.

I just adore Kyle's teacher, she made signs that said "We Be-Leaf in Canada".
Cracked me up.
(Kyle is in his 'fro on the left hand side.)

See how cute the koala hats turned out.
You can see the France kids behind them in berets, that was cute too.  You know I love a hat!

I didn't take any pictures of the events.  I got this one from another mom.

I also missed Kyle winning the hula-hoop contest because I was watching Reed's class who was in the gym.  (I was watching whatever class was in the gym or the shade.)

Kyle was the only boy to win the hula-hoop contest in any class.

I still miss true competitive field days with ribbons like in the good ol' days.

Picture Day

I told Jason his school picture turned out really good this year.

The children who don't look exactly like their father had good pictures too.

Koalas and Kangaroos

The boys have field day on Friday.  They are having an Olympic themed field day and Reed's room is "Australia".
Since I'm room mom, I went up today to have the class make koala and kangaroo hats.

I figured most of the boys would be kangaroos and the girls would be koalas, but pretty much everyone wanted to be a koala bear.

I kinda just came up with these, and they look so cute!

Happy Birthday

We celebrated Granny Sherry's birthday last night at everyone's favorite, Benihana's.

It was pretty rowdy there last night since there were quite a few Homecomings this weekend.  And if you're wondering how "rowdy"...let's just say a chop stick came flying from a few tables over to land in the middle of our grill.

Flying chopsticks or not, it was still a good night.

Cool Kids

Our kids' social lives have officially become way better than ours.

Kyle and Reed got out of school at noon yesterday, so they started their weekend off early with a birthday party, a pre homecoming pizza party, and rode the bus with kids from their school to make the victory run-through line at the Memorial HS homecoming game.

I can always find Kyle in his "Meow" hat.

JR went to a church youth group middle school bonfire and then spent the night with "his crew".

And Jason and I are so lame, we just went to dinner by ourselves.

Not Losers

This is us looking entertaining ourselves at The Texans game while we watched them lose.

Except they won...after we were already home and asleep.

So Of Course They Got One

Maw Maw and Paw Paw couldn't have their precious babies wanting a blow-up and not having one, so I got a text from my dad on Sunday telling me he wanted to buy them a blow-up and go pick one out.

 This is what they picked.

And it lights up...

They Keep Begging for a Blow Up

I've decorated the outside for Halloween, but Kyle and Reed are super unimpressed because they are dying for a blow-up yard decoration.  They even told me they don't care what it is, they just want one.

So, here are my Halloween decorations that nobody likes because they aren't blow-ups.

Football Update

Remember back when I said we were just hoping to win 1 football game?
Well, we've won two.  So we made our goal.

We've got about 3 games left, and Reed's job as quarterback is for the passing plays.
He's the only one on the team that can pass it.

And Kyle has proven over and over that he's the only one on the team that can snap it.
Being center is a really big job since you loose a down if the ball hits the ground when you hike it.

Here are two highlights from our 2 wins.

The first is Reed running the whole length of the field for a touchdown.
(except that is was called back for holding).

And here is Reed passing.
Kyle is #5 and hiking the ball.

Just Like Last Year

I looked it up and my kids were in the pool for Columbus Day last year.

They aren't in the pool today because they are all off with friends, but they were having a water-balloon fight yesterday.  October is still definitely summer in Houston.

Singing with the Stangs

The middle school choirs were invited to sing The National Anthem with the high school choirs at the football game on Friday.  JR was thrilled to work with the high school kids, but furious that they "sounded awful" when 2 middle schools "that weren't even invited!" showed up.
(I thought they sounded just fine.)

I brought along 8 3rd grade boys to the football game.

JR rode the bus over with the choir so the "little" guys ate pizza at our house before hand.

Here's my one picture from the game. I don't have any pictures of JR because we aren't allowed to act like we know him.  When it was time to go we had to text him and then he met us in the parking lot because it would have been humiliating to walk out of the game with us.

Here they are singing.  I have no idea where JR is and I never found him.  Jason spotted him at the end.

I Should Probably Check Upstairs More than Once a Day

I walked upstairs this morning to see Kyle had redone his fort.

Now this is a fort.
(Or a huge mess, the terms are interchangeable.)

And no "keep out" signs, I guess JR just knows he's unwelcome.

No JRs Allowed

I went upstairs this morning and found this fort Kyle had built.

On closer inspection he has "Keep Out" signs of sorts.

It's also very clear that Kyle has inherited both his father's and my terrible spelling genes.

Bless his heart.

It's supposed to say: "No people allowed older than 12. Only mom and dad are the only people who can come in."

The funniest thing about this is all he had to say was "Keep Out JR".  JR's friend, Christian, is staying with us for a few days while his parents are out of town and he's 12, so JR is literally the only person in the house not allowed in.

No JJ

I'm not sure what all the boys did while I was gone, but some of my bunch went to the Texans game on Sunday.
Sadly, JJ Watt is out for the season, so even though they won, it's certainly not the same without JJ.

JR was singing at church in all 3 services, so friend, Pierce, went in his place.

When they were on the sidelines they got to shake hands with The Texans general manager, Rick Smith...and Kyle got a hug.
(Because if you're Kyle, you ask for a hug instead of a handshake.)

There was fun (and strength training) to be had outside the stadium too.

F-Burg

This weekend was my girls trip with my group that went to Vegas to see Britney.
Except 2 had to cancel and we brought in a new one, so it was really only 4 of us from the Britney trip.

We went to Fredricksburg, which is now the 2nd most toured wine destination in the country after Napa. Who knew we were so fancy here in Texas?

Cassie, Kelli, Cassidy, Me, and our new addition, my across the street neighbor, Caroline.
(Not to be confused with my other Caroline that's my friend from forever.)

Lots of fancy sunglasses in this picture.

I said I was in a "Cass" sandwich.  Cassie or one side and Cassidy on the other.

I even got to see my old neighbor I grew up with, Stacy. She works in Fredricksburg and swung by to visit after her shift at the hospital. We hadn't seen each other in 18 years.

It was a super fun trip with lots of laughs and fun had by all!
