Finally!

We let JR grow out his hair during quarantine, and then he just kept growing it out.  The longer it got the more he thought it looked "awesome" and the more we thought it looked ridiculous.

He finally got it cut today (after Jason threatened to take him to Sports Clips himself) and oh my goodness, he looks a million percent better!

Hurricane Laura

So the kids went to school for 2 days, and then school was cancelled for 2 days so we could prepare for Hurricane Laura.

Not only did it not rain 1 drop, I believe the wind gusts got up to about 4 miles an hour.

I'm certainly not complaining that we didn't get hit by a hurricane, but if you're going to cancel school for 2 days, you'd at least expect to get a rain shower out of it.

This is Stupid. AKA: The First Day of School

JR declared "this is stupid" first thing this morning and I wholeheartedly agree.

JR's 1st day of school picture -he's a junior

At lunch time he left the house with a flourish saying, "I'm sooo done with this! I can't take it anymore!"  Mind you it's the middle of the 1st day of school and he's already "done".

He returns carrying an El Pollo Loco bag and proclaims "The line at Whataburger was too long, so I had to get El Pollo Loco.  A disappointing lunch for a disappointing day.  Thanks, Lina Hildago."

(Lina Hildago is the county judge that refuses to let us go back to school in person even though the district said we could.)

Reed, who loves school, said he hated it.  He said "school was 10 times worse than I thought it was going to be."

Reed's 7th grade back to school picture

One of our district rules is "no pets in zoom classrooms".

I looked over and here's Kyle.

Kyle's 1st day photo- 7th grade

So yes, JR is right.  This is stupid.

Chloe's Breckenridge #3

All of us have had trouble adjusting back to the heat and humidity of Houston, but nobody more than Chloe. She actually refused to go on her daily walk when we got home.  She literally walked out in the street and turned back around and went back in the house.

It's not hard to see why she's so mad.  She definitely had the most fun.

On Top of the World

Kyle and Reed finished up their time in Breckenridge doing a hike that none of the rest of us even attempted.  They went all the way to the top of Peak 8.  They even said they're glad they did it, but they aren't sure they would ever do it again.

They were literally sitting on top of the world.

And then we did a much easier hike the rest of us could handle.

Even More Fishing

In this year of fishing, the boys (and Granny Sherry) went out for a fishing trip on Lake Dillion.  They said they had so much fun, and caught lots of fish.

Kyle was very excited because he caught an Artic char.  Apparently there are only 2 lakes in the lower 48 states that have Artic char and Lake Dillion is one of them!

The boys brought home some of the salmon they caught and thought they were so funny when they told me I needed to cook it.  But Jason put it on the grill, and it was super yummy!

Mountain Goats

We went out to hike the Monte Cristo Gulch and before we even started hiking we had a mountain goat sighting!

We hadn't been hiking long when we spotted more mountain goats.

I guess everyone got inspired, because after that, the family basically turned in to mountain goats.

Especially our littlest mountain goat!

Vail Pass

Jason, JR, and Christian arrived on Saturday and we headed out Sunday to bike down the Vail Pass.  Jason and I had ridden down it last year, so we knew the kids would love it.  Which they did.

3 in 2 Days

Kyle and Reed managed to drag Granny Sherry and me on 3 hikes in 2 days.  The pictures of Kyle shirtless were a fashion choice, but the pictures of Reed shirtless were due to this little incident.

We saw lots of pretty scenery and the dogs definitely sleep good after.

Chipmunks

We had the best time feeding the chipmunks.

We got there early so we could do the "breakfast" feeding.

They were just adorable.

And Kyle got the best video of them!

Blue River

Kyle, Reed, and Granny Sherry arrived in Breckenridge the day my second group of girlfriends left.

Kyle and Reed wasted no time jumping right in (literally).

They jumped in the Blue River with an outside temperature in the low 70's and a water temperature that's about 52-55 degrees.  Kyle said it was so cold his body could barely swim.  No thank you.
