This Is What it's Come To

Kyle is taking cooking as one of this electives.  Their current unit has been learning how to wash dishes properly.

2020 has been so completely boring and awful that washing dishes has become so exciting that Kyle videoed himself washing the dishes during class.

And my blog has become so completely boring and awful that I'm posting it.

Right Again

Before the tropical storm craziness of this week, we were able to get out last weekend and go see one of our favorite cover bands.

We've been telling JR how much he would love them since they play all the amazing music Jason and I grew up with.

And, as always, we were right.

Obviously.

Par for the Course

So the kids don't have school today because parts of Houston are flooded because of the tropical storm that's hitting. This is the 4th week of school and they've only made it 1 week of in-person everyday.

Chloe's face after having to go out in the rain to potty is all of us in 2020.

Mugshots

I had to get both my driver's license and Kyle and Reed's passports renewed this week.  I was prepared for the worst, but I was in and out of the DPS in 15 minutes and we had passports renewed in less than 30.  Now this is some "new normal" I could get used to.

But what I can't get used to is how much these two have grown since their first passport "mugshots".

Cotillion

Since Kyle and Reed are in 7th grade, this is their year for cotillion.

Surprisingly, they are letting them have it, and not just cancelling it like every other thing in the world.  The kids have to wear a mask and they can't actually touch each other, but at this point, everybody is just happy to be let out of the house.

They looked very handsome.

And the best part is they had me put Chloe in her "cotillion-wear" for pictures.

They went with some of their friends, and they said it was fun.

I found JR's old Cotillion pictures and they have definitely grown up since he did it.

How to Win at Tennis

If you're wondering how to make it to the finals of a tennis tournament here's what I'd suggest:

Quit playing tennis in February to concentrate on baseball.  Then when baseball gets shut down after 4 games, don't do any kind of physical activity except swim with your friends everyday and hike when you're on vacation.

When you find out on Wednesday there's a tennis tournament you want to play in on Saturday, call up one of your tennis friends and have him hit balls with you on the Friday evening before the tournament.

Show up to your tournament, beat everyone, and make it to the finals where you play a freshman in high school that's on the JV team.

You might not be able to beat the big kid, but you can come very, very close.

Congratulations to Reed who took runner up on Saturday.

2020-Year of the Fish

To continue with the theme of fishing is the only thing open in 2020, here are the latest big catches!

Reed caught a huge perch

And Jason and Reed both caught big bass

But Kyle caught the monster bass of the day

Real School

The kids got to go back to real school today.  (They get to go again on Thursday.)  And they all said "in person school is a thousand times better than zoom school."

So here are their real, 1st day of school pictures.

I'm sure we'll be punished for letting the kids go back and numbers of covid cases will magically spike in Houston and we'll have to shut down, but at least they got to go today

Chloe School

Since school has been at home these first 2 weeks, Chloe has been busy going to school with the kids.

Her classes are a little bit different than theirs.

She goes to cosmetology.

And squirrel chasing class

And nap class, of course.
