I Need More Sequins

I always tell me friend, Wendy, I'm living vicariously through her since she has a daughter on the MHS drill team.

As if Saturday wasn't exciting enough for me with the big baseball win, Wendy invited me to go with them to see Taylor (JR's homecoming date last year, and Kyle and Reed's friend, Sean's big sister) in the Markette Spring Show.

I was really impressed with the show, and I definitely don't have enough cute costumes and sequins in my life!

3rd Win

Reed's little baseball team finally won another game.

This is the 3rd game they've won all season, and they beat the team that is in 3rd place in the standings.

Leave it to Reed to be in the most stressful situations of the game.

It was the bottom of the last inning and he had runners on 2nd and 3rd.  There were 2 outs and Reed had a full count.  All he needed to do was end the inning and they would win....so yeah, no stress for Reed (or me, or Jason, or Granny Sherry).

His last pitch was a strike and they won the game...which was like winning the whole championship for this team.

So we all lined up and took pictures with our little pitcher.

Not Sharks

After the shark dissections I can promise you that I was not interested in eating any seafood for dinner Friday night.  Jason and I made it out to our first Astros game of the season, which was thankfully, shark free.

It was a gorgeous night and they had the roof open.  We don't get weather like that in Houston very often.

Shark Attack

I volunteered Friday to help with shark dissections
.
As with every other dissection I've ever volunteered to help with, I didn't actually touch anything and let the kids do everything (thank goodness they want to!)

Our Shark

Our shark had an empty stomach (one shark had a seahorse in it and another one had a whole shrimp) but ours had 2 uteruses....which were full of babies!

Baby shark

I think we had 4 babies in all.

These are our "oh my, we're dissecting a shark" faces.

One Way to Get to the Front of the Line

I had to take Kyle and Reed to the doctor for their 11 year old check-ups.

11 is when you get 3 shots, which they both knew were coming.

Kyle wanted to make sure that he got to go first and get the shots over with, so this is how he waited for the doctor.

Reed was not impressed.

Happy Easter

We had a very nice Easter Sunday and the weather couldn't have been more beautiful.

Out for a Drive

Yesterday was gorgeous so we let JR drive us down to Galveston to get in some good practice on the road.

I keep telling him if he can drive in Houston he'll be able to drive anywhere.

It was windy, but such a nice day.

I Tri-ed

I did the HRC triathlon Saturday.
Which sounds so much harder than it actually is.

Last year I didn't swim, but this year I did.

They told me I could use a floaty in the pool as long as I would swim, so I showed up with this.

I didn't actually use the unicorn floaty, but I did use a kick board that I balanced under my stomach.

The bike portion (a spin class) wasn't a problem, though I could definitely tell I haven't been spinning much.

The running would have been way easier had I not just swam and biked, but April and I passed 2 people up, so for the 2nd year in a row we were "not last"!

Go Rockets

I haven't blogged but it's not because nothing is going on.

JR is busy with choir, theater, and umpiring.  Reed is busy with baseball, Kyle is busy with diving, and I'm busy getting these people to and from all these places.

Last night Granny Sherry, Reed, JR and his friend, James were able to not do any of the above mentioned things and went to the Rockets playoff game.

And they made it on the jumbotron

Reed also caught a t-shirt out of the t-shirt cannon and made it on the jumbotron again for flossing.
On top of all that, the Rockets won, So it was definitely a big night.

Another Weekend Another Meet

Kyle had a diving meet this weekend.

He didn't have a good day on 3 meter, but he did have a good day on 1 meter and placed 3rd.

His team is a pretty fit looking bunch.

Tuxes and Songs

I went along last week as the chaperone for JR's UIL choir contest.

I was so impressed.  The guys sounded amazing!

I was able to video during warm up, I can't believe they can sing like that.

Show and Tell

JR's world geography class has been studying Africa.  The teacher asked if anybody had been there and when JR raised his hand and said he'd been twice that led in to him talking about Grandpa Gary (who has been 27 times, BTW.)

His teacher googled Gary, figured out he was legit, and asked him to come speak to their class.

I went along since even though Gary can navigate any airport and country in the world, I wasn't sure he could get checked in to the high school and find JR's class.

Kyle asked me "How did Grandpa do at his show and tell for JR's class?"   And I had to report that Grandpa did a great job, and the kids and teacher were really impressed!

Not Spring

I thought spring was here, but it definitely is not.
We had to get back early from my parents since Reed had a baseball game on Sunday afternoon.

Kyle and I were so glad we had a blanket because we were freezing in the stands (I'm still fired and banished from the press box).

At least we didn't have to stress while we were cold since Reed still couldn't pitch from his last game.  Watching him play shortstop is much easier on this mama's heart.

That's a Big Number

My daddy turned 80 yesterday and we had his party on Saturday.

Of course the weather was perfect and beautiful all week, so it had to rain, turn cold, and the wind had to blow a million miles an hour on Saturday when we had 100 people coming to his house.

I didn't get many pictures because I was running around talking to 100 people, but I think everybody had a great time, and I was happy we got to celebrate!

The new 80 year old with his favorite party guests

I made Reed stand in front of one of the cakes before I started cutting it so we'd have a picture

Daddy blowing out his candles

And when you have a cake that looks like this

then you know to expect this at the party.
