Kyle and Reed had their school Halloween auction party on Friday night.
Reed has been obsessed with the "zipper face" since he saw a picture of it online. At first I told him there was no way in the world I could do that, but then I decided to take a page from Kyle and Reed's playbook, and watch a "how to" video, and discovered it isn't hard at all.
Here's my finished product of Reed's zipper face.
Reed videoed the whole process in time-lapse, so you watch me do the whole thing in 30 seconds.
Kyle was still trying to come up with his costume as I was doing Reed's make-up. You'll actually see him appear in Reed's video wearing one of JR's old Chinese costumes as we discussed if we could stick chop sticks coming out of his head.
We finally just decided on some cool "zombie make-up and flesh wounds".
I don't think the vampire teeth even made it to the party.
Of course, Kyle made a time-lapse video too.
Finished products together.
(Reed's hair really isn't that orange, it's left over from being sprayed yellow at school for Field Day.)
I was a party chaperone, so I dropped them off at Sean's so they didn't have to go early with me.
I thought this picture of them together was so cute!
Sean is the best President Trump I've seen!
As would totally be expected by anyone related to me, Reed won the dance contest.
Here he is showing off his trophy.
And Kyle and Reed won "scariest costume".
It was the end of the night, so I missed getting a picture. But come on, that's my award anyway, right?
They had so much fun at the party that they weren't even jealous of their friends (and their dad) that missed the party because they were at the World Series.
JR sang The National Anthem at his last Singing with the Stangs for the Memorial/Stratford pregame.
The choirs sounded amazing and I was really impressed!
Kyle and Reed were happy to see next door neighbor Mary.
And we saw JR too.
I forgot to bring him a change of clothes which was almost the biggest crisis of his life since the Memorial/Stratford game is the "social event of the year". (That quote was "screamed" at me through a text when I said I "forgot" the change of clothes I was never told to bring in the first place.)
Luckily I was wearing a Spring Branch t-shirt, so I was the one who wound up wearing this cute, pink Singing with the Stangs shirt for the actual game.
I made a super quick trip to Ft. Worth on Saturday to go to Cassidy's going away party.
She's moving to Midland and we're all acting like Midland is at the ends of the earth...which it kinda is.
She had no idea our "Britney Spears Group" was coming up to surprise her, and here's how that went down.
We had such a fun night, and I'm actually feeling pretty good considering I had a 3:00 AM bedtime Saturday...except that today is Tuesday, so maybe I didn't recover as fast as I think I did.
I thought Taylor and JR both looked super cute (and age appropriate...you should see some of the dresses the girls wear...wow!)
Full length picture
We even brought Chloe over so they could have a dog picture.
Look at Angel's smile!
I told JR not to think his homecoming dinner was the standard because he'll never again get to watch the Astros playoff game and the TX/OU football game while Texans cheerleaders are sitting at the table behind him.
Or get a homecoming picture with Toro.
They said they had fun at the dance, but that the DJ was terrible.
The big homecoming dance is tonight, and the big homecoming game was a success.
(Memorial even won, which was surprising!)
Taylor and JR exchanged giant mums...as all good Texans do.
And they posed for before game pictures.
This is JR's "I think I'm awesome since I'm an 8th grader with a homecoming date" smile.
Taylor's brother, Sean, and Reed are BFFs, so we sent them to the game with them so the car ride wouldn't be so awkward.
Reed reported that he and Sean had a blast at the game, and that all the kids yell out "JaaaaayR Ingersoll" whenever they see JR. Doing the morning announcements for 3 years straight definitely makes you famous...or maybe the better word is 'infamous'.
We didn't send Kyle because JR and Kyle fight and we wanted Taylor to have an enjoyable homecoming game.
It wasn't hard to bribe him to skip the game and hang out with Jason and me instead.
I've already told the boys that we are not doing our normal Christmas decorations this year.
It just seems tacky to go all out with decorations when thousands of people in Houston are either living in a torn up house or not living in their house at all.
I told them the same was true for Halloween, but Kyle and Reed have driven me crazy that they wanted "something" for Halloween.
I didn't put out any of my normal inside decorations, and I only brought out the bare minimum for outside.
So this is my compromise of decorating for the kids, but not going over the top.
Jason asked me if I wanted to go to the Astros playoff game with him, and being that I'm the most amazing mom ever, I told him he could give my seat to JR since he would want to go more than anybody.
Jason said he was in line with about 11 other dads picking up their kids early from school on Friday to make it to the 1:00 game.
They got to the game and reported they had great seats by 1st base and behind the Astros dugout.
I guess around 2:00, my phone started dinging like crazy with reports that Jason and JR were on TV.
I'm super thankful for all the notices because I wasn't watching the game, and Jason and JR would have never known they were on TV.
Of course I had to giggle to myself since all I could think about was the scene in Ferris Bueller's DayOff where they're supposed to be in school but they wind up on TV when Ferris catches a fly ball at the Cubs game.
They both had a fantastic time.
Jason said it was an awesome game, and with an 8-2 win for the Astros, Minute Maid Park was packed until the end with lots of celebrating.
All of Houston seemed to be super happy to see the month of October come.
It has been so nice to be "busy" and be back in a routine again.
JR played in his first football game the other night. He had to take PE this year since he didn't last year, so he decided he'd take athletics and play football. All of his best buddies are on the B team with him, so they are having lots of fun.
Because of the hurricane, the 10 game season got cut down to 5...which is fine by everyone in this house!
There he is on the field, #84
And in other news, JR is going to homecoming.
Yes, he's in 8th grade.
Yes, it's a high school thing.
He's taking a family friend's daughter that is a freshman.
They are both excited to go.
Asking someone to homecoming is a whole big "thing" now.
Thankfully the internets is full of signs that moms made for their sons for me to copy.
