Road Trip Day 1- LSU

We just got home last night from a week long road trip.  We had an entourage of 8 including: Granny Sherry, Maw-Maw, Paw-Paw and Jason met up with us for the end of it. 

I decided it would be a fantastic idea to do a college tour on our way out to Atlanta for Kyle's diving meet.  And, as usual, I was right.  

I figured I was doing this about a year too early, but I'm so glad we did. It really gave JR an idea of what (and where) he wants to work toward. 

(Also, as usual, Reed took everything in for future reference and Kyle was just there for a good time.)

Our first stop was 4 hours down the road at LSU.  

Actually our first stop was a gas station for potty breaks and breakfast milkshakes from the F'real machine.  You always know you are in Louisiana.  Even at a gas station. 

LSU started off with a information session that sold Granny Sherry, Reed, and me hook, line and sinker.  Jason keeps saying he needs to go to LSU and hire their recruiters as salesman because we couldn't stop talking about how great LSU is. 

The tour didn't include the football stadium or their tiger, Mike, so we got on the campus trolley and rode over to see both.  (Maw-Maw and Paw-Paw stayed in the student union.)

Mike the tiger lives on campus and we learned the top 2 veterinary students get the privilege of taking care of him.  His "enclosure" is nicer than anything at any zoo I've ever seen.

After our tour of LSU, we all got back in the cars and headed out for a 5 hour drive to Tuscaloosa, Alabama so we spend the night to start out Day 2.

Summer Basketball

Reed is playing in a summer basketball league and having the best time.

The teams aren't allowed to have coaches, so the kids have to do everything themselves.

Almost all of Reed's best friends are on the team, and they haven't even come close to winning a game....but I think it's the most fun he's ever had.

Moose Tracks

While Kyle was jetting off to Florida, Jason and I were happy to be getting on plane for Colorado.

The snow has been amazing this year, and we were super excited that Breckenridge was still open.

The skiing was perfect up top, but the snow was really heavy down at the bottom.  Jason compared it to skiing through a slushie. 

 

The odds are slim that we'll ever get to ski Memorial Day weakened ever again. 

We were some of the few people that had on shirts. 

 (Yes, lots of girls skiing in sports bras and bikini tops!)

And if getting to ski wasn't enough, we had a moose walk through our yard Monday morning!

I lived in Durango 3 years and never saw a moose. 

Coral Springs

As soon as graduation was over Kyle headed to the airport with Granny Sherry to attend nationals in Florida. 

He was excited to have divers from his team on the plane with him. 

Granny said Kyle dove great, but the competition was really tough.  

Kyle finished in the middle of the pack in both 1 and 3 meter, but still came home with some nice hardware since the top 12 got medals.

They also found time to have some fun over the long weekend, with trips to the beach and (of all things) to rollerskate!

I was so concerned about JR's freshman year in high school that I honestly didn't even pay any attention to Kyle and Reed's grades this year. 

So I was completely shocked when they had Reed stand up at graduation with a hand-full of other kids for making all A's and all E's this year.

Which meant he received the President's Outstanding Academic Excellence Award.

Reed was most excited to show JR that it was signed up President Trump.
