Valentine's Weekend

We all had a great Valentine's Weekend.

Jason and Kyle were at the San Antonio Rodeo for shooting events

Reed went to Austin with a group of friends (the only picture I got was of his dinner)

I went to a Galentine's Mahjong event.  (Check out the balloons in the background we did.)

And Chloe thinks she got these delivered to her.

Super Bowl of Skiing

We decided to take a quick Super Bowl trip to Colorado, because, well, why not?  Not much snow, but lots of fun!

The Man Without a Country

JR returned to school yesterday after being off for 2 weeks.  He says Oxford looks worse than Houston after a tornado or a hurricane.  I got these pictures off the internet, but saved where I got them from because Kyle and Reed kept saying they had to be fake.

JR made his rounds up and down the Redneck Riviera, hitting up Biloxi, Gulf Shores, and New Orleans. Each day my mom would call and ask how "the man without a country" was doing, and I would have to tell her, "Don't cry for JR, Argentina."

Clearly, he was doing just fine.

Rogue Wheelbarrow Incident

Well, here I was thinking our FFA barn adventures were over, when I got a call from Kyle telling me he was on his way home from the barn so I could look at his tooth that he might have knocked loose.

Apparently, he was cleaning out his pens and the wheelbarrow flipped back up on him, and well, he got home and looked like this.

I called my friend who used to be a dental hygienist, and she assured me that even if the tooth was knocked out, it wouldn't matter if he went to the dentist immediately or the next morning, it would still be the same outcome...but to call the dentist.  The dentist was already gone for the day, but the receptionist felt super sorry for him, and got him in for the first appointment the next morning.

Luckily, it was only a bruised gum!

After what feels like a million years in braces, the last thing I wanted for Kyle was more dental work!

Last Pig

We thought Iris was a good looking pig, but you just never know what the judge is looking for or how the pig is going to act on show day.

I just loved the way she walked, and I thought she had such a cute butt!

Iris walked away with 3rd in her class, and 6th place overall which was really awesome!

Kyle was the only boy called back for showmanship. The judge told Kyle that Iris was a really strong pig and he had really good control of her.
The buckle he won is really nice!

And 6 is a good number, as 6th place Iris brought in $6,000 at the auction.

It was a great ending to 4 years at the barn!

Chickens!

We just finished a weekend of Kyle' last hurrah of FFA.  He raised chickens this year and we really didn't expect too much.  In fact, Kyle said he would be happy if he finished in the top 20.

He got sorted into the "front" row, which we didn't know if that meant he was first or last (I was kinda thinking he was last since he didn't seem too confident about his chances.)

But then the judge spent a whole lot of time in the front row, so we started feeling much better about his position.

And he wound up placing 7th, which we were all shocked about!

And just to make this about me for a second, here's Daddy and me one of the years I showed chickens. I'm pretty sure I'm in 6th grade here.

I'm not sure why we doubted Kyle's chicken raising skills, he's certainly had the experience...

And he got $2,500 for them at the auction, which was another nice surprise!
