The big day finally arrived.

Phineas and Ferb Live!

 

Thankfully, we were able to make it to the seats without having to buy any $20 popcorn, snow cones, plastic hats, light wands, or balloons. 

 

Much in part to:

A. The promise of an after show trip to Pinkberry if we passed on the $35 nachos plate

and

B. They were one of the first 100 kids to spin the Belco Theatre Wheel and won a free Phineas!

This is what their "I'm ready for the show to start!!!" faces look like.

 

 

 

They loved the show and were happy to hear all their favorite songs

 (they even sang mine..."Squirrels in my Pants").

 

 

They've been wanting to ride one of the downtown bicycle rickshaws for quite awhile, so as we exited the theater we spotted one and rode over to Pinkberry.

(This was the best picture I could get to capture the moment...not terrible considering we were speeding through the downtown streets of Denver on a rickshaw!)

 

 

The Phineases were excited about Pinkberry.

 

 

But probably not as much as these guys.

 

 

On the way home, Kyle proved he's been hanging with big brother, the actor, quite a bit.

He said, "I really liked the show. Good thing nobody forgot their lines!"

Goggles.

 

Not just for the pool anymore.

Skinny and (Almost) Average

These little people had their 5 year old check-up.

The verdict: they're skinny, and almost average.

Come on, average!!!

 

They're only a 1/4 inch apart in height, but that 1/4th of an inch makes Kyle soooo close to average. 40th percentile, compared to Reed's 35th.

 

As far as their weight goes...well, there's a reason they can still wear their size 18-24 months bathing suits.

 

36 and 37 pounds puts you in the 15th and 25th percentile for weight.

 

But hey, at least we're on the chart!

NASCAR We Are Not

This year's Pinewood Derby was certainly not all unicorns and rainbows.
 

The car looked good. (JR's is #4)

But, um, I don't think racing was really this car's thing.

Poor JR came in last in all of his heats.

You'd think an A&M engineer daddy could build a faster car.

 I'm guessing there must be some truth to all those Aggie jokes after all!

The Birthday's Back

Well, we finally got around to having a birthday party for Kyle and Reed.  With school starting up, a birthday ski trip, and a holiday thrown in...it just didn't seem like there was ever time for a party.

 

 

Jason and I both agreed this was a super easy party.  An hour in the gymnastics center and 30 minutes for pizza and cake...and...done.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Guess I Need to Invest in a Round Table

Sooo, JR tried out for another play on Thursday.

This time the play is King Arthur.

3rd play; 3rd play set in medieval England.

(He better change it up soon or he's going to find himself typecast!)

 

 

He decided he'd put down Merlin the wizard as his number 1 choice on his audition application.

He didn't really have his heart set on Merlin, there were some other parts he thought would be fun too, so he went to the audition pressure free.

(As apposed to the Robin Hood audition where I know we both would have been seriously crushed if he hadn't gotten Sheriff of Nottingham.)

 

 

Another reason he went into this audition with no expectations is because this play is for kids who have been in other productions. 

No new kids. 

 

 I was really shocked at the number of boys in the room when I dropped him off. 

 I called my mom and said, "there's a lot of boys, and they're big!"

 

 

Usually the cast list comes out the next morning, but by the time school was out, I still hadn't gotten it.

JR kept saying, "Could you just check? Could you just check again?"

 

 

Around 5:00 I checked yet again. 

 I saw his name toward the top of the list and thought, "Oh no, he's a townsperson."

(They list the cast in order of appearance, and I knew the 'townspeople' were toward the top".)

 

 

So I literally screamed "OH MY GOSH! OH MY GOSH!" when I saw that next to JR it said "King Arthur".

 

 

My first phone call was, of course, to my parents (who were equally as excited as I was).

And my second phone call was to JR, who was at his friend, Nolan's, house.

 

 

I called Nolan's mom (who just happens to be my friend, Denise, that made Reed's elf costume) and got JR on the phone.

 

 

 I said, "JR, the cast list came."

JR: Did I get Merlin?!

Me: No, Baby, you didn't get Merlin.

JR: Oh no! Am I a townsperson?! (Great minds think alike, don't they?)

Me: JR! You're Arthur!

JR: I'm Arthur?!

Me: You're Arthur! Are you excited?

JR: I'm VERY excited!

And Denise was nice enough to send me a picture of him right after he found out.

The message said, "I'm the whole play!"

JR's got a ton of work to do between now and March 14th. 

 The main part sure does have a lot of lines!

The kids have real knight costumes.

(Come on, I mean, what costume don't we have?)

But, of course, these they made out of paper are waaayyyy cooler.

Did I mention they used my entire roll of tape?
