So That Was Pretty Awesome

Jason asked me Wednesday if I wanted to go to the (Thursday night) Texans game.

The answer was yes.

 

Then yesterday he told me he had passes to go down on the field before the game to watch the players warm up.

 

 

Now I have happily jumped on the Houston loving J.J. Watt bandwagon as fast as everybody else.

(How can you not love him?) 

And look how close I was too him.  And BTW, he is HUGE!

 

 

And then J.J. and I took a picture together.

I mean, he doesn't actually know we took a picture, but that's just a technicality. 

We are in the same picture after all.

 

 

And though J.J. is definitely the most impressive Texan, there are some others to get excited about, and we saw them too.

That's just super cute Brian Cushing. No big deal.

 

 

And there goes linebacker, Brooks Reed jumping high in the air.

 

And just a few impressive names from the Texans offense taking the field.

(Again, they weren't really aware of his part in the huddle...but that's okay.)

Maybe it's a Combination of Both of Them

One of Reed's papers he brought home this week really made me laugh.

 I'll show it to you, and then we can discuss.

 

At first, I didn't understand if it was a story he had read or what, but then he told me it's a "squiggle story". The teacher gives them a squiggle (it's the top of the crow's head) and then they draw something from that squiggle and write about it.

 

Now, to the best of my knowledge, Paw-Paw doesn't mind having crows (he doesn't like grackles or chicken hawks, so maybe Reed used "crow" cause it's just easier to spell).  Paw-Paw also doesn't shoot anything, but he does have Freddie and JR shoot at the chicken hawks and grackles.

 

Grandpa Gary may have an issue with crows, but I haven't ever heard him complain about them.  He did have a crane he was having problems with (it was spearing and eating his koi fish out of his pond). Grandpa does like to bird hunt, but I don't believe crows rank high on that list.

 

And did you notice, that big black thing on the right hand side is a bullet. Poor crow doesn't stand a chance!

(It is a cute crow though. I mean, sure, it does look more like a fluffy chicken, but still..pretty cute.)

Skeet and Stuff

Granny Buffie put on a skeet shoot as a fundraiser for the Republican Women this weekend.

My kids love anything that involves shooting, and JR loves anything where he can wear his Reagan

T-shirt, so it was fun all around.

 

 

 

Maw-Maw and Paw-Paw came by for a bit.

 

 

And Kyle and JR got to hand out awards. 

(They did not get to give any to their daddy who didn't place.)

There was another skeet shoot taking place at the same time and they had a silent auction.

You know Jason and I can't resist a silent auction, so we actually wound up "winning" a duck hunt for 4 in North Texas and a wine tour in Fredricksburg for 4 (guess which of us bid on which ones) at an event we weren't even a part of!

 

1 Week 2 Autographs

Every Christmas JR asks for books (and he wants them hardback).

Then I always tease Jason and say the same thing every year, "How many book have you ever asked for for Christmas in your life?"  And then we laugh.

(If you're wondering, the answer is 0.)

 

I'm convinced Jason hasn't read a book since elementary school.  He disagrees using the argument that he would have had to read a book to graduate from high school and college...but conveniently, he can't actually remember the names of any books he's read.  And, I, having been married to him for awhile now, know how he operates and I'm pretty sure he just talked somebody (friend or maybe teachers) in to just giving him the answers he needed for the test.

 

 

On the other extreme, we have JR.  He was so excited for the author visit they had at school on Wednesday, that he got overly excited thinking it was Tuesday and then was disappointed he had to wait another day.

 

 

Nathan Hale's book One Dead Spy is one of the Bluebonnet Award nominees this year, and he came to visit their school.  JR loved it and finished the book in a day or two. 

He's super excited with his autographed copy.

On top of that, Granny Buffie had been hosting Charlie Kirk all week.  You might not know who that is, but now that I've mentioned him you'll probably see him on TV.  According to his bio he has appeared on Fox News, CNBC, and Fox Business News over 75 times, including frequent appearances on "Your World with Neil Cavuto", "Varney & Co." and "The Willis Report." He is also a columnist for the Washington Times.

 

 

JR got to hear him speak on Saturday at a Generation Now event, and then he went to a big, fancy dinner with Charlie and Granny Buffie Saturday night. (Yes, just the 3 of them.)  I'm thinking JR has a new hero.  Charlie gave JR one of his books, and here's its autographed page.

As JR would say, "It's kinda a big deal."

Low on Pictures, but High on Fun

We've been quite busy having fun over the last few days.

Our friends, Scott and Debbie, from Denver arrived on Wednesday and then we drove over to New Orleans for the weekend.

 

(You might remember we "won" a trip to New Orleans at the JDRF fundraiser we went to in March.)

 

This is the only picture of us altogether. It's fuzzy, but the only proof I have.

We did the "have to" stop at Pat O' brien's for a hurricane.

And Jason was super excited to get a Lucky Dog. 

 (He and Debbie also snuck off for chicken legs, but those got eaten too fast for a picture.)

 

 

I was super excited about my Shark Attack, and Kyle is very happy to be the proud new owner of the pictured shark.

 

 

We ate at Jaques Imo's where we all agreed it was some of the best food we've ever had.

(I was scared to try the shrimp and alligator cheesecake, but it was awesome!)

 

Then Saturday night we ate at Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse which was also great.

 

We wrapped up a fun weekend this morning by riding in the elevator with Darryl from The Office. 

 He was very nice and I'm sure he was appreciative that we didn't ask for a selfie.

 

We couldn't figure out why he was in New Orleans until we saw the nerdy looking guy that's also in Hot Tub Time Machine getting in the airport van, so we figured they were there promoting Hot Tub Time Machine 2.

 

And you know it's time for a post to wrap up if I keep dropping Hot Tub Time Machine references.

More Like Mug Shots

That was the fastest school picture turn around I've ever seen.

The kids had their pictures made a week ago. (As in Tuesday!)

 

My mom was here so she can attest that their hair was brushed before they left the house, because you'd never know looking at these pictures.

 

I'm also already saving my money for Kyle's future dental work.
