A Jail Break

School has been out for a week so I guess I better finish up blogging about it.

 

The school fair was cancelled twice for the rain.

We finally had it 2 days before school was out (this one was rain or shine).

 

Luckily there was shine...but also a lot of mud.

Of course the mud didn't slow the kids down one bit.

 

 

 

Trying to keep up with 3 kids and work a booth (mine was hand the kids a dozen cascarones and let them break them on each other) I didn't get many pictures.

Here's the one time I ran in to JR.

 

You'll notice JR's "jail" shirt.  The kids could pay a ticket to send the 5th graders to jail, then somebody else would have to pay a ticket to bail them out. 

 I guess kids started paying for other grades too because all of mine got sent to jail. 

 

I also heard over the loud speaker: "Kyle Ingersoll has broken out of jail without bail and needs to come back."  

 

Which didn't surprise me one bit.

 

Not Winners

Last year Reed was a winner in the state of Texas beach contest. 

He won lots of great prizes, and I learned that there's lots of contests out there where you can win really good stuff (think tablets and trips).

 

 

He entered a few of them this year, but we (as in the family benefiting from his prizes) came up empty handed.  Some I wasn't surprised, but a couple I really thought he had a good chance.

 

 

So let's take a look at our non winners:

 

He started the year with the PTA reflections contest.  The theme was "The World Would be a Better Place if...." 

 Reed's answer?  If there were more pets to love. 

 

I knew that wasn't a "winning" response (maybe if he'd said "everybody had a rescue animal"), but it was definitely a first grade answer, and I didn't try to make him change it (look at me being a good parent).

 

He won a blue ribbon at school, but didn't go anywhere in the district contest.

He entered the beach contest again too. 

I knew he wouldn't win 2 years in a row (plus this really isn't a winning picture).

 

These next two I really thought he had a chance.

This was for the Don't Mess With Texas (don't litter) campaign. 

How cute is that raccoon?  (And there's lots of coons in Texas...totally perfect!)

 

 

I thought this was great too.  It was a conservation art contest.

I love the rubber duck.

 

 

 

I guess these are cuter to his mama than art judges.

 

Summer

It is officially summer around here, and I feel like I'm on summer vacation myself.

So since I'm not feeling up to long-winded blogging, here's a picture of Reed eating a snowcone.

 

 

Fashion Fabulous Friday

You might have noticed Kyle, Reed, and their teachers looking a little Egyptian in the last post. 

Every year their school studies classical cultures, and each grade studies a different time period.

 

At the end they have a parade where everyone dresses up.

Kyle and Reed worked on their costumes in class, so I assumed JR was working on his in class. 

Two days before the parade I realized I hadn't heard JR mention his costume so I asked if they'd been working on them. 

 

His answer: No.

 

Fantastic. 

 

That left me one day to come up with a Renaissance costume.  

JR's teacher was "nice" enough to email us the night before the parade to say "just wear their middle ages costumes from 4th grade."  Well, that's awesome, especially since we weren't here last year!  

 

But by the time that last minute email rolled in, I had already whipped up a Renaissance costume. 

 I certainly could have come up with something better, but this is the best I could do in a day.

He has a "knight" themed dance at camp this summer, so I'm thinking this will work for that too!

We're Free

It's the last day of school!

(School should not continue on up into June in Texas.  It's too hot and we are ready to be out!)

 

 

Kyle has had a great year. He has loved school (because he has been in love with his teacher) and never complained once.  His teacher and I were laughing because she heard me working with the kids one day and said, "You talk to them just like I do."  I said, "I tell my husband all the time you treat the kids the same way I treated the kids when I taught...I think that's why Kyle loves you so much. It's like being at home!"

Reed has also had a fantastic year.  His teacher loved him and he loved her.  She was very sweet with the kids and Reed loved going to school everyday.  They were perfect for each other. 

 (And again, it helps when you happen to be pretty too.)

I'm really glad JR got the opportunities he did this year.  I'm thankful he was able to do the announcements and MC the talent show to show off his gifts. 

 

I've told you before how JR is quite the celebrity with the lower grades.  Just look at how the firsties reacted to him at the 5th grade clap out.

 

But, it's definitely time for JR to go on to middle school!  Here we are after 5th grade graduation.

 

Welcome  Summer!

All Celebrated

JR's birthday has been officially celebrated.

We took JR and his friend to the Astros game, with the big excitement of the night being JR and I getting on the jumbotron.

 

 

Jason and JR's friend had gone to the concession stand during the "flex cam".  JR was flexing his "muscles" trying to get on the screen...and he did.  Of course I was in the shot too, and handled it as I do everything in life...totally calm, cool, and collected...or maybe I threw my arms up over my head and started squealing.

 

 

After getting on the jumbotron the boys spent the rest of the night trying to get back on.

So they looked like this most of the time.

 

 

We definitely got our money's worth since the game was 11 innings, and though the Astros didn't win, Jason and I felt like we were on our own private date since the boys paid us no attention at all.

 

 

But JR's birthday didn't end there.

Saturday night he went to dinner with Grandpa and Granny Buffie

 

 

And Sunday night went to dinner with Granny Sherry.

 

Needless to say, the child certainly didn't starve this birthday.

Because of the Rain

I heard on the radio this morning that we got 26 inches of rain in Houston in the month of May. 

The wettest May ever.

 

 

It wasn't just us that the rain upset, Hunter has decided that he's going to have panic attacks during thunderstorms in his old age.

 

Here he is when I picked him up all pretty from the groomer (you'll notice it was raining that day).

 

 

And here he is about a week later after a panic attack I wasn't home for. 

 I'd think a closet would be a good place to hide if you were scared. Hunter thought going outside and wallowing in mud was the way to go.

 

 

After looking through my May pictures it seems the rain certainly didn't slow us down from eating.

 

 

And it didn't slow Kyle down from posing with "fun" things like bottles of water or a table.

 

 

We were able to sneak in an Astros game.

 

 

And thankfully, we were able to make it up to Denver and back.
