I'm Election Day

Seriously.
I really am Election Day.
Well, I was for Halloween, at least.
(My Beijing friends will recognize this little ensemble as my costume for the 1776 Ball.  But that's the great thing about having a prop closet, I just grab something and rename/reuse for another occasion.)

Now, as you can imagine, I didn't get many compliments on my outfit.  In fact, I got quite a few stare-downs.
I honestly thought I was being on my best behavior. Not wanting to offend 98% of the attendees at our neighborhood Halloween party, I went as nonpartisan as I could.
I thought it was very nice of me not to go in with my conservative guns blazing.
But speaking of guns, I did add this one little button that I figured would sum up my election day choices.
But I haven't even gotten to the best part yet.

So we'd been at the party for about five minutes and a man I didn't know walks up to me and says,
"Who are you? Sarah Palin? All you need is a hockey stick."

I looked right at him, and in my most sweet and sincere voice said,
"Oh no! Sarah Palin is much too beautiful for me to try and be her!
I could never pull that off,
 I'm just... Election Day."

I thought his head was going to explode.
He looked at me completely dumbfounded, and then turned away and walked off.
Not. a. word.
I was so proud of myself.
I've never left anybody speechlesss before!

Scary, Scary Stuff

I got such a sad, depressing letter from JR's teacher yesterday. I figured this day was coming, but I was hoping maybe it wouldn't.

*big sigh huffy breath*
JR will be having spelling tests every Friday.

Yep, the famous spelling test. Oh the fun memories I have studying spelling words as a little girl. Those Thursday nights were always filled with such happiness and laughter.
Just...
so.
much.
fun.

And I don't even want to know what Jason made on spelling tests as a kid. I knew spelling was not his forte' when he once asked me how to spell 'Christmas'. I also knew where he got his spelling genes when Jason's dad called and asked him how to spell 'Sherry'. (Which is Jason's mom's name!)

But really, who needs to study spelling words now that we have God's gift to the world, spellcheck? Yes, everyone needs to know their homophones, homonyms, and homographs. (I'm always petrified I'm going to use 'their', 'they're', or 'there' incorrectly when I'm writing in a hurry.) But if the kids have to have spelling tests, can't they just be to see if they can get close enough for spell check to fix it?

I'll keep you updated on how studying "our" spelling words goes. But if you hear wailing and gnashing of teeth coming from our direction, JR's cries are just slightly more pitiful than mine.

Bunny Bailout

Was there a Bunny Bailout I missed? With this economy the media won't quit talking about, I was sure the picture with the Easter Bunny line wouldn't have been 2 HOURS LONG. Oh yes, 2 hours! And just to make sure we're all on the same page about the state of our economy, Jason and I picked the cheapest Easter Bunny picture package which was $21.64 (to be exact) AND we had all our kids in one picture. Part of the reason the picture line was 2 HOURS is that most parents were having a group shot of their kids, and then individual shots. Oh yeah they were. Not only that, but both families who checked out in front of me, bought the $20 Easter frames for the pictures!
So how did the picture turn out? Well, about like I thought it would. I knew Kyle wouldn't want anything to do with The Bunny, and I knew Reed would be fine with him as long as he thought it was a big dog. Reed looked a little scared at first, but after I petted the Easter Bunny like a dog, Reed followed right along. He sat in his lap with no tears. I thought I could keep Kyle from crying by putting him in JR's lap, but as you can see from the picture, no such luck. So here's the picture, which I actually love because it captures each of their personalities perfectly. Kyle full of drama and scared to death, Reed content but not overjoyed, and JR thrilled since he knows The Easter Bunny will be bringing a basket of goodies for him.

Cheap Gas Parade...Today!

One of my dearest friends, Marcia, made a fabulous post on her blog wondering when we were going to have a cheap gas parade. Gas was $1.44 here in Houston today, I think that's worth parading about! My only requirement for having a cheap gas parade was that I wanted to wear costumes. Well, Marcia, my dear, I broke out our best parade costumes (tiaras, of course) AND I gave us the best car in the parade. It's amazing how many celebrities who are usually so critical of President Bush would join in our cheap gas parade. That was so thoughtful of them. And I knew Oprah had put a few pounds back on, and Trump had a big head...But WOW, I had no idea it was this bad! Strike up the band...

I Love You, Sarah!

More than likely, tomorrow will be a very depressing day for me (and LOTS of others). I could fill pages and pages on why I'm terrified of the one who's predicted to be president. But what's the point? As Americans we each get one vote (supposedly, anyway). And as Americans we have the freedom to say and think whatever we want. I voted. I made my preference known. That is all I can do. People have asked me not to "get political" in my blog. Well, I hate to point out the obvious, but this is my blog. I love it that people think it's funny, and choose to take their time to read it. But, yes, I will get political today. But I won't be bashing anybody, or being SNL politically "funny". Today I just want to write to my girl, Sarah.
Sarah, The more the biased, liberal media crucifies you, the more I love you. Sadly, we probably won't be seeing too much more of you after tomorrow, Sarah. But please know that you are fabulous. You've been described as a devout Christian and a staunch conservative. I can't think of a better compliment. I can only aspire to have people describe me the same way. Your political goals to end corruption, cut spending, and provide accountability are right on point. Not only could our country use a good dose of these, but what great goals for my family to strive for too. The media has called you everything they can think of, but they can't deny your beauty and they can't deny your character. In a society that looks up to bar-hopping socialites (Paris Hilton is a high school drop out with a GED),morning talk show hosts (Whoopi Goldberg is a high school drop out), and Kabbalah practicing rock stars that mock Christ's Crucifixion, it's so refreshing to have a true role model females of all ages can look up to. A beautiful, smart, Christian woman that became successful without being one of Oprah's favorite things, making a sex-tape, or having the paparazzi take pictures of her without underwear. You are my role model, Sarah Palin. Thank you!

"Blessed are you when men hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man" Luke 6:22

Thanks for Ruining It for the Rest of Us!

I'm so angry at the "supermom" right now I can hardly see straight. As, you've probably heard some crazy woman had sextuplets and ran a marathon right after the babies turned one. Oh but it gets better, she also went into cardiac arrest and almost died after the delivery. She said she was lying in bed and couldn't imagine ever being able to run again. Are you kidding me? My babies are 5 months old and I have yet to dream of going out for a run. How are the rest of us non-supermoms supposed to live up to this? I was planning on milking this twin thing for as long as possible. I even had my standard answer I was going to give worked up, "I'd love to help with (fill in blank with anything somebody has asked me to volunteer at, work, or supervise) but it's just so hard to get out with the twins; having two of them really eats up all of my time." Now people can come back at me with, "Oh, I see...did you hear about the lady that ran a marathon who had sextuplets?"
The family was on the Today show and Meredith Viera asked her when she found time to run and she said something like...Oh, they're really good sleepers. We put them down at 7:00 and I go out and run for 2 hours... Well, that's just super. My babies (and yes, I have 4 less than you do, lady) don't go down until 9:00 or 9:30, and if I was to start running that would really cut into my So You Think You Can Dance watching time. So, thanks a lot Supermom. I'm sure you'll be getting your own reality show....and no, I will not be watching you. I'm stickin' with Jon and Kate. All Kate ever does is get her hair highlighted, go to the spa, and complain about how tired she is. Now those are standards I can live up to! Kate, YOU are MY supermom!

Recession? Have They Told Starbucks Yet?

If you’ve turned on the news lately then you’ve heard all the doom and gloom of this terrible recession we’re in…the recession that only King O. will be able to save us from. Now I’m with you on gas prices; I cringe every time we have to fill up. But a recession? Seems nobody told the throngs of people that were at the mall Saturday night. While Jason and JR were enjoying Kung Fu Panda, I pushed the babies around Memorial City Mall, and it was so packed, I actually felt crowded. This coming from somebody who lived in a city of 16 million people; I know what crowded is. Saturday night felt like a weekend trip to the Pearl Market in Beijing! That’s when I thought of all this recession talk, and started paying attention to people. Did they have packages? Were they just hanging out? Were they spending their Economic Stimulus Checks? The news keeps saying we’re all so desperate we’re going to spend our ESC on food. News media, you are absolutely right, every kid over four years old was walking around with a $5 smoothie, a Starbucks Mocha Frappe Frou-Frou, or a $3 Double Doozie Cookie. Not to fear, our children aren’t going hungry because every kid in the family would have their own…We wouldn’t want to risk somebody putting in a call to CPS if they saw a child having to actually…gasp…share! Don’t worry about the adults either; they all had their own $5 Jamba Juice, Cinnabon, or $6 Cold Stone Creamery ice cream. I guess the recession is hitting the Ingersoll family harder than the rest of the mall patrons. Jason and JR shared the $5 Kiddy Pack at the movies, while the family in line in front of them spent $45 (yes that’s 45 dollars) on concessions. So what’s the problem with having a treat every once in awhile you ask? Not one thing. I’m sure every kid in the family was celebrating a special day when I saw family after family with kids loaded down with stuffed animals from Build -A -Bear. I’m sure all the women I saw lined up at the register in the Coach store were picking out their birthday presents. I’m positive the teenagers loaded down with shopping bags from Abercrombie were just beating the shopping rush for their much need school clothes. All kidding aside, how people spend their money isn’t any of my business…just don’t complain about the economy while you're putting 2 Dooney and Bourke purses on hold . Then again…Actually, I’ll be happy to listen to you...if you give me a bite of your Cinnabon!

Super Annoying Tuesday

If you've turned on the TV in the last month you are certainly aware that it is Super Tuesday here in Texas. I'm so excited that today is finally here because I'm almost certain that the annoying commercials for the candidate that thinks he's a rock star and Hillary will stop! Those of you who aren't living in Texas at the moment, let me assure you there are no other commercials on the television. I am being force fed democratic candidacy 24-7. Oh, I think I've seen one commercial for my guy Mike Hukabee, one for Ron Paul, and I've never even seen one for my guy after Mike Hukabee drops out, John McCain. All you Texans out there can back me up; there are NO other commercials on TV or radio than Hillary and the other guy. I would LOVE to see Mattress Mack jumping up and down wanting to "save me money". I would LOVE to see the annoying daughter from the DeMontrond Auto Group trying to be a television personality (that girl really has no business being on TV). And oh how I miss those Sonic commercials with the husband and wife...How am I supposed to know what new fabulous and fattening thing Sonic is offering this week?! So, Super Tuesday, I'm so glad you're here...and I can't wait for you to be over. And finally...the first, last, and only time I'll ever say this in my entire life.... Go Hillary!
